York is a great combination of historical and modern town. There is loads to do from multiple museums to almost every shop I, as a student, can think of actually going to. There are also decent clubs that are good enough for a student like me that isn’t too bothered about clubbing all the time- they generally have a variety of types of music and value for money.

York is a beautiful city. There are endless characterful cobbled streets to wonder down, and a huge vibrant selection of independent coffee shops to study in and chat with friends. It's a fun and friendly place to go to uni, and particularly stunning during Christmas time.

York is an amazing city! Although not the wildest, it's a fun night out with everything in walking distance (and if you are feeling lazy a bus) and a whole range of bars, pubs and clubs. Plus none of it's that expensive and no pre buying of tickets for clubs so just see how you feel on the night. It has everything you need and all within the safe environment of this beautiful city.

There’s lots of things to do; whether it’s for family-friendly days out or for a night out. It’s really easy to get around York and the people always seem very friendly. It can be a bit pricey, but there does tend to be lots of discounts available to students.

I absolutely love my unis’ location! It’s less than 10 minutes away from York’s historical city centre where there’s a whole range of shops, eateries and bars! I love that York has so many amazing local places to eat and drink - for all budgets. York is a beautiful place to live and I’ve never felt safer in any other city, even on nights out. I do think that York is an expensive place to live especially for the north, but you soon find the more budget friendly places - for example on a night out I never spend more than a tenner and I don’t pay for any transport as most of york is so compact and everything is within walking distance! I’m so glad I choose YSJ for my university and I couldn’t be happier living in York.

York is a beautiful, historic city, ideal for shopping and little cafés. There are plenty of things to see and do - museums, clubs and bars, cinemas and a beautiful park in the centre of the city. Depending on the type of entertainment you are looking for it can be a little pricey but is well worth it. The train station is near the centre and the bus service is reliable, meaning it is very easy to travel to nearby towns and cities. Whilst York is perhaps not ideal if you are desperate for a vibrant nightlife, what it does offer is more than adequate for the average student. Not only that but the city itself is renowned for its beauty with historical sights such as York Minster and the city's surrounding wall.

Fantastic location and amazing departments. Close to city center, with many student housing options available around and outside of campus. Amazing place for those who love long walks in the evening - can walk by the river or actually around the lake on campus too!

I live in Leamington Spa and study at Warwick University. While the commute is a bit of a pain - particularly at prime time in the morning and afternoon when all the cars are on the road - I am so glad to be able to live in Leamington rather than Coventry. Full of cute little cafes, shops, clubs and glorious parks, Leamington is where any parent should want their child to live when they leave home. It’s expensive but you get what pay for, the people are friendly and there’s a lot to do in just a small place for students and residents alike. Coffer Architects often has a queue out of the door and it is nice to see locals as well as students out and about. What a lovely corner of the world!

York St John is a great uni, it’s within walking distance to the city centre, with great pubs, cafes and a decent nightlife. The uni itself is small which makes it all the better, everyone is so friendly and everyone knows everyone so it’s just a lovely place to be.

Overall the uni is in an excellent location and there are loads of places to eat and drink. However, your are limited on clubs to go to and I find shopping is not as good as bigger cities like Leeds, but both these factors are still good just not excellent.

Good nights out Plenty of places to eat and drink Always something to do Affordable and cheap to live as a student Always new places opening Close to Leeds and Newcastle when wanting something more

For the first place to live in after moving out of your family home from a small town it is probably the best city you could ask for. It comes with all the positive features of a city, the shopping, the night life and amazing festivals regularly mixed in with the safety feeling of living in a town, IN THE CENTER! I love it!

There is definitely enough to do when you first visit York, there’s lots of attractions with it being a tourist city. Whilst they may be pricey, they’re all worth it and often you can get discount being a York resident. Anything inside of the city walls is more expensive than that out if the walls, although things may be pricey you get good quality for what you pay for. Museum Gardens, Dean’s Park and Rowntree’s Park are the go- to places in the Summer. Just avoid the centre at weekends if you want to walk anywhere fast!

Great location. 20 minute walk to the center and many shops and things to do near by. Good to be a bit out as it is quieter.

York city centre is easily accessible by bus from pretty much anywhere in the city. There’s so much to do! From shopping to discovering hidden treasures. The Shambles, Clifford’s tower and a ghost walk are a must! York is only a fairly short journey away from the seaside! Other things to do are; visit the York chocolate story, one of the many pubs for a Sunday dinner and go for a walk on the walls.

I love York, it has everything from shopping, activities and clubs. It has a good mixture of historical places and cool young bars. It is definitely a place for everyone, with soemthing for everyone.

York has been an amazing location for my university experience. It has a bit of everything and coming from a small country side village, I didn’t want too big a jump and change from what I was used too. York is the best of both, with country side close by with the moors and dales, yet it still has that city feel. Nights out are great and you always feel safe, with loads of takeout places to collect cheesy chips on the walk home. We’re also a cheap train ride away from bigger cities if you begin to crave a bigger night out. There’s also loads to do such as free museums and art galleries and with cool activities nearby such as a climbing place and trampoline park.

York is a fabulous city with something for everyone. Whilst on the outskirts, the uni is only a 30 minute walk into town, or a 5 minute bus ride away. I can't comment extensively on the clubbing scene, but you'll find a nice array of bars, an enormous selection of places to eat and a thriving coffee culture. Look out for Lendall Cellars for a unique pub experience, or Gatehouse Coffee for your next coffee date.

The place of my uni is very safe. York is very easy to get around and to find jobs and opportunities during and after uni. York St John is very close to the centre

Good night life, very pretty city and nice to walk round and see the minster and the museums. The only issue is that it's quite touristy so it can get quite expensive and it's very busy in the summer months.

York is the nicest city ever, just been crowned the beat place to live in the UK. There's loads to do for tourists and residents, and there's always events to go to. It has the nicest cafés, restaurants, bars, pubs, etc. Although some can be expensive, a lot have offers and student deals on during the week. In the city centre there are a lot of high street shops, as well as smaller, local businesses. Slightly further out there's the designer outlet, monks cross and Clifton Moor, all larger retail outlet type places. Nights out are good fun, with 4 main clubs in the centre. It could be busier with more places, however there's loads of bars about to make up for it. On weekends there's a lot of hen/stag parties which can be interesting.

York is a pretty fantastic town to be honest, the two campuses are a short bus journey away from the town and the buses run very regularly, there is a nice mixture of your usual chain shops and cute quirky independent shops, there are always people out on a night and the drinks are really cheap.

There are plenty of good restaurants for fair prices, though drinks are pricey. Nights out are fun in York but there is limited option on clubs- though the universities have designated night and at certain clubs so you always feel welcome.
