Winchester City

Winchester is an amazing city with a beautiful cathedral and lots of greenery. The university is small and intimate but this just means you get to everyone quite well. I study Digital Media Practice and everyone in course (from 1st years to MAs) spend time together and there is a lot of in course collaboration. In terms of parking: there is a park and ride which is great if you're commuting in (or want to take a day trip around winch) as there isn't much onsite parking.

Great places to eat and drink- lots of independent places instead of boring chains. Has great rail links people always going to Southampton or London so easily from the station. There is only really one area students live after halls- Stanmore (the only affordable housing in Winchester) its not very nice but turns into a mini student village as it’s basically all students.

Really lovely city, with a friendly community. However the only downside to it, as a student, there’s isn’t a great nightlife. The SU at the University is probably the only “club” that makes a night out; besides going to the pub. As well as this, there are really only two high street shops suitable to student such as New look and Primark. Nonetheless, the city is beautiful and has so many lovely attractions and to name a few, the Cathedral, St. Catherine’s Hill and The Round Table. Definitely a beautiful city. And I enjoy studying at the University too. it’s a great place for relaxing and embrassing the city’s lifestyle.

Winchester is a beautiful, historic place and a wonderful place to live. However, there are some downsides for students. Housing prices are ridiculous, which is something all people considering Winchester should be aware of. Shopping is OK, but the shops tend to be higher end with the exception of Primark and New Look, which is a bit annoying as a student. However, Southampton is just a short train journey away and is much better for shopping. The nightlife is OK also. The student union is open most days, and there are a few clubs and bars to go to. They’re not necessarily the best, but again Southampton is not far if you’d prefer something different. Restaurants and cafes are amazing in Winchester though. There’s a wide variety and something for everyone. There is definitely more higher end places, however this perfectly matches the feel of Winchester. I should also mention the beautiful cathedral, where if you attend university in Winchester, you will have your graduation here. Pretty cool! Overall I love Winchester and can’t see myself living anywhere else.

Winchester is a beautiful city full of old buildings, history, churches and a beautiful catherdral. The shops are very middle class nice shops, eg the white stuff, kath kidston. There are lots of lovely cafes which have a fantastic vibe! Many restaurants and many pubs which are very popular with students! Weatherspoons and O’Neil’s always has a great vibe and thursdays are student nights, everyone goes to O’Neil’s and then to pitcher and piano which is like a club/bar. For people who prefer pubs over clubs, Winchester is perfect. There is one club however! Winchester has similar prices to London and so it’s not cheap but I’d say it’s value for money. There are always musicians playing in the square and main strip of town which is a lovely atmposhere! A very friendly town! The food is good and they have markets at the weekend full of different foods and desserts!

Winchester is undoubtedly a beautiful city! It has a Cathedral which is enjoyable both in the summer, and the winter with it’s Christmas market. When it comes to nights out, Winchester does not exactly offer a lot as there is only one nightclub. On the other hand, Winchester is perfect if your kind of night out is a few drinks and to socialise with friends, as there are plenty of cocktail bars, pubs/pub gardens and even a couple of these turn into more of a club environment in the evenings. As mentioned, there are plenty of pubs and this is the same for restaurants and cafes too - Winchester offers so much variety when it comes to eating out! Transport in Winchester is great - they have a train station which has direct links to London, and there are frequent buses that go all over Winchester including the typical student living areas. Taxis have never been a problem either! Winchester does not have many shops that are suitable for students, however Southampton is a 15 minute train journey away, and has a huge shopping centre that certainly has a better range of shops.

I really love this little town winchester! It’s not too busy. Some people think there isn’t much to do here but I think there is so much to do! There are so many beautiful places to go on walk with my friends. Cute little cafes and friendly people everywhere. It’s so beautiful and it makes me feel happy it’s like home away from home.

It's not that great for nights out as only has one "club" Really good for meals out for lunch or dinner. But the shopping experience is lacking aswell not really a student town

Winchester is SUUUCH a good place for introverts and extroverts! The nightlife isn't Wild, but the choice of where to go for breakfast the morning is great!

The location is okay. It’s nice because it’s close to London but it’s such a small uni and there isn’t much to do as the town is small too. Nice countryside though

I am studying a brilliant course at a small adult higher education learning centre in Winchester. The location of the centre is not great as it is difficult to find parking often making students late to class. There isn’t a great deal of things to do within walking distance and you often have to drive to places which can be difficult inbetween lectures.

No direct busses for students to bug tesco would be good! Student bus discount would be good! Nice range of shops in town! However, lack of good clubs and night life... most students go to southampton for a good night out. This is tricky though as the latest train is either 11:30pm or 5:30am! :(

From an outsiders perspective Winchester comes off as a quite little city, full of old people and with not much going for it, but these aren't necessarily bad things, the quietness of the city makes it one of the safest cities in the UK to attend uni in. The crime rate is low and the streets are quite safe at night. This does come at a price though, its the second most expensive place to live outside of London and that can quickly become a burden to students, nights out aren't cheap and neither is housing/halls. There's a lack of nightlife outside of the SU but the clubs are generally quite safe to be in, the city is beautiful to look at, the campus is lovely, the education is more than satisfactory. Southampton is a cheap train ride away if you go to gigs, want a good shopping experience or want a full on night out. Also there's two national parks either side of Winchester for days out and London is only an hour by train and around £25 with a railcard.

Winchester is quite a quiet town. Although the university is alright, the town can be quite boring and it can be quite difficult to find something to do when you’re living there during semester time. There is only one real nightclub called Vodka and then there are many pubs etc that turn into mini clubs, like Pitcher and Piano for example. Winchester is a lot more lively in November/December time as the christmas markets and ice rinks are out. It is also nice during the week when the little stalls and food stalls are out on the highstreet.

The historical and asthetic merits will always fall as the greatest parts of Winchester, as they captivate you completely and primarily. The wondrous spaces, gorgeous scenery and fresh surrounding of old buildings, Cathedrals, nature reserves and tranquil areas really captivate you on its entirety. The food choices are delightful. From a porterhouse next to the local theatre, to fresh pizzerias cartering for all eaters, to local pub bistros that encompass all of what British culture and cuisine is. A gloriously scheduled transport system, straight connections to major cities, ample room to grow and play, and plenty of places to enjoy your evening, from pubs, bars, comedy clubs and even a show or 2 by our very own residents of Winchester at the Royal Theatre. What more could you ask for?

The amount of shops is great, there are loads of cafes and places to eat. But it is about a 10 minutes walk into town, and there is not a lot for young people to do. Southampton is only a train journey away which is a bonus. The buses don’t run very late.

Very pleasant city to live in. its very safe here and the town is very pretty. not great if you're looking for a night out but not far from southampton and there are plenty of quirky pubs here

Winchester is a city in the county of Hampshire, on the edge of England's South Downs National Park. It’s known for medieval Winchester Cathedral, with its 17th-century Morley Library, the Winchester Bible and a Norman crypt. Nearby are the ruins of Wolvesey Castle and the Winchester City Mill, a working 18th-century corn mill. The Great Hall of Winchester Castle houses the medieval round table linked to King Arthur.

I absolutely loved my time at Winchester. It is a quiet kind of place with not a huge Amount of nightlife but still a few places to go out. Southampton is not far if you want a bigger night out. It’s quite expensive for accommodation but the cost of living is fairly standard. There’s plenty to do nearby and has great road and transport links between places such as London and the seaside. Many restaurants and some very nice little boutique shops. Again there is Portsmouth and Southampton close by for bigger shopping ventures.

Winchester is a beautiful city, small enough to still feel at home and close to nature but with loads to do and see. There are so many coffee shops and pubs all welcoming and normally full of happy shoppers or students studying. You have both chain and individual shops, restaurants and coffee shops. The hills can be challenging but everyday you get some good exercise. I love living in this beautiful city!

Pretty buildings and cathedral but that only really interests old people. Shopping is awful but there’s a lot of food places. Nightlife is shocking but there’s a few pubs and bars

Beautiful city. However no night life (only one club),very few affordable clothes shops for students- just Primark and a small new look. Full of history and pretty architecture . Only 10 min train journey to Southampton city with West Quay shopping centre
