LOVELY SMALL CITY WITH HOMELY SMALL TOWN/ CITY VIBE AND ENOUGH TO DO FOR THE SIZE OF THE PLACE!!

Derby is a small city in the East Midlands, conveniently located at the approximate centre of the U.K. with the M1, A52, A38, A50 and A6 roads all running through or close by the centre. With journey times of roughly 30 minutes to Sheffield, Leicester and Nottingham and 40 minutes to Birmingham, Derby is conveniently located for easy access from almost anywhere in the country. The city isn’t huge but it makes up for it in other areas, such as employment (rolls Royce and Bombardier rail being huge employers in the city) and the university, which is constantly improving year upon year. Derby is a vibrant, wholesome city well worth a visit, and who knows: it could even be your home for 3 years and beyond!

Great facilities across all campuses. Lectures are very knowledgeable. Everyone is friendly, night outs have a great vibrant atmosphere.

Derby is a city based campus. It is close to a lot of amenities, shops, restaurants, clubs and a big shopping centre. There are a variety of shops which is good for students and so many different restaurants to choose from, although they can be expensive. Night life is a big part of student experience, although there are clubs to go to unlike some campuses, it does get a bit boring and if it's not on a student night (wednesday or monday) then it can be expensive to go out

Derby isn't a prestigious university by any stretch however and it's a big however it is the shining new comer wanting to winner every award. It is a great place for student of all ages and backgrounds and the campuses and nightlife caters to all.

Shopping in Derby is the main attraction as it has a huge shopping centre (intu) with a supermarket and food court. There are art galleries, museums, cathedrals and more. The nightlife in derby is not the bedtvans as there are only really 3 main clubs, although there are plenty of pubs about. Transport is good as therw are buses and taxis all over thethe city centre.

Overall, Derby is a brilliant place to study and I’ve enjoyed living here for the past two years! It’s pretty quiet which I like as its a breather from being at home in London but that doesn’t mean the nights out are tame at all! The student night at Walkabout on Wednesday nights is always a brilliant time and Mosh on Friday and Saturday nights is wicked. In terms of food and shopping, we have the Intu center which has all the shops you could ever need and a massive food court with an abundance of restaurants to choose from! There are always offers for students such as discounts and happy hours which are life-savers! I really enjoy studying in Derby and everyone here is super friendly, the town isn’t beautiful with lovely buildings and things to do such as visit the Peak District which is stunning.

When I came to Derby I was expecting it to be a very nice small city. Apart from the strand its very scruffy and not a nice place to walk around at all. Thankfully the university isn't in the city centre so I avoid it as much as I can

Derby is a vibrant multicultural city, but the size of a large town. With everything in the city within walking distance, everything is accessible and made even more so by the excellent road, rail and airport links. Food options are diverse and represent the varying cultures of the city well. Out of town, links to the Peak District and Nottingham are well connected. Shopping facilities are great with a vast shopping centre as well as streets lined with boutiques.

The university is a great modern building and with amenities like Subway, Starbucks and Papa Jons - as well as the university’s own cafe Blends, the foodcourt, the shops and SU. There is everything you could possible need at university. The library has everything you could need and normally there are enough computers and space in there. The buses are mostly quite awful, either they turn up late or don’t turn up at all on many occasions - but sometimes they do surprise you and turn up on time which is great. Currently I’m studying the foundation access course, which could be improved, although I am glad to be at university, the teaching in some of my classes is as poor as the support system. Additionally there is a constant disregard for the enivornment and an absurd amount of paper is handed out daily, for which there is no need. Asides from the negatives, the university of Derby is a great place to be. I would definitely reccomend joining a society or sports club!

Amazing teaching staff, gold award for teaching, small class sizes allows for more space and time to speak to teachers. Modern buildings/campuses and high quality facilities available.

Good area, can be really pretty in certain areas (depends what campus you are at) lots of shops around and easy to travel around

The location of the university is great, its walking distance from town and from halls, and the free uni bus makes getting around extremely easy

For the typical student, night life and uni are synonymous with one another. There are a good number of night clubs in the city centre that put on student nights with Walkabout Wednesday and MooMoo Monday’s being among the most popular. The floors might be sticky but the drinks are cheap and the music is decent. There’s no shortage of restaurants and cafes although most are not exactly friendly on the wallet with a typical lunch costing around £8. A further downside to Derby is the lack of things to do outside of the uni environment. Aside from the intu shopping centre and Bounce Revolution, there is little on offer and the fact that a visit to Calke Abbey is the top voted attraction of Derby is telling of this

As with all student towns, nightlife is generally good, with favourite venues being Walkabout and Blue Note and a couple of other clubs catering to cheesy pop and metal music as well. For a more sophisticated night out there’s the Derby Theatre and the smaller Guildhall Theatre for music, shows, talks and comedy. There’s also a handful of independent venues, two major cinemas a short taxi ride from the campus, and the Derby Quad. This is a community arts centre with a cinema attached. They show movies, art exhibitions, and put on a bunch of events and extra workshops over a range of topics. Keep an eye on their calendar.

Grew up here and loved it all the time, drinks vary in prices just got to know where to go. City centre can be very over crowded but derby is full of little gems

Derby as a city is fantastic, the shopping centre Intu Derby is questionable but for a student it has everything you need. There is a variety of things to do in and around Derby. Lots of restaurants for those first dates and many bars and drinks houses for going out with the lads. Transport links are great whether it be to London,Leeds,Manchester or Sheffield everywhere is within a good 1-2 hours.

Great city! Has good transport links that are cheap. It has a bug shopping centre and has lots of places to eat. The nights out are ok, but they aren't my type of thing anyway.

Derby is a city that is not too big and not too small with a good variety of entertainment, food, shopping and nights out. However it could do with a few more eateries!
