Are you ready to embrace new opportunities? To meet our world's challenges and make a real impact on the extraordinary times we live in? Then get ready to immerse yourself in a different type of place. A place with tailored learning built around your interests and ideas. A place to develop your passion and a place to fulfil your potential. We are York St John University and we've been changing lives through education since 1841.
With us it's personal. Every learning journey is different. That's why we get to know you as an individual and support you in achieving your personal goals.
We prepare you for the future. We are in the top 25 universities in the UK for graduate outcomes (DLHE 2017).
Celebrate in style. Our students have been graduating in York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe, since 1989.
London Calling. We opened the doors to our London Campus in 2018, allowing our students to supercharge their studies.
We know that nightlife is important and York won't disappoint. York boasts a pub or club for every night of the year, from record-holding gin bars and quaint pubs dating back to 1503, to clubs with revolving dance floors, it's shaping up to be a good night in York.
Halls of residence
We know how important it is to have a place to call home when you move to a new city. That's why we guarantee you a place in our accommodation in your first year of study.
We have nine accommodation sites managed by the university which include studio flats and shared flats or houses. All of our sites are within a 20-minute walk of our campus, 60% have ensuite bathrooms and all of them have WiFi access, it all adds up to a great place to live.
Clubs and societies
Our Students' Union (SU) has over 60 sports clubs and societies so you're sure to find something to suit your interests. The SU supports all of our clubs and societies and if you think we're missing something they'll help you start up your very own society.
Our current societies and clubs include Student Minds, Veggie Society, Musical Production Society, Snow Sports, Ultimate Frisbee, and Mountaineering, amongst many others.
Our campus is located in the centre of York, a city steeped in history. From shopping on the oldest street in Europe or finding out about local history to enjoying a film at our independent cinemas, we've got it all.
York's streets are lined with a mix of independent shops and cafes, well-known high street stores and plenty of restaurants. The city also hosts an annual calendar of festivals that showcase local talent and the history of the region. These include the renowned Aesthetica Short Film Festival, the Great Yorkshire Fringe Comedy Festival and the York Literature Festival.
At York St John University our Freshers' Week schedule is packed with a full range of events. From movie marathons and international food fairs, to pub quizzes and a pop-up petting zoo, you'll feel at home and be laughing with new friends in no time.
Our Students' Union continues to plan a full calendar of events throughout the year, even after Freshers' Week is finished, so you'll know there will always be something to get involved in.
The campus is well kept, always clean. It involves a gym on campus which is relatively small but has everything that you need in it. The student union is a great place to sit down and socialise with your friends, they offer pound a pint on Saturdays which is great for students. I study psychology and I very much enjoy my course. You are offered a lot of support to help you through your studies. The lecturers always encourage booking tutorials to help out as much as they can with anything you might be struggling. The course modules for the first year have been very interesting.
YSJ is an excellent university and I would recommend it to anyone. My 3 years have been the best 3 years of my life and I have been given so many amazing opportunities. YSJ have excellent study abroad connections and I was lucky enough to go to Oregon, USA in my second year. The support available at YSJ is second to none and due to the campus being small, it genuinely feels like one big family! The reason I gave 4 starts instead of 5 is because in my experience, there has been the odd lecturer who maybe hasn't given me the feedback I needed to justify the grade, but this has not happened regularly and overall, I love YSJ!
