University of York

Good sized campus with two campuses for 1st year. Accommodation is consistent at 7/10. I do economics bsc and the facilities are good with good feedback and support from seminar tutors and lectures. 6 exams in first year which is above the average but exams weren’t too hard for first year and gave a good idea for what the course will be in the future. Student union is active but personally has had little effect to me with individual university colleges events playing a greater role like Derwent end of term parties. My experience has been positive and I look forward to second year.

University of York is a great well established university that prides themselves on their education standards, campus facilities and student culture

Great facilities, staff, careers advice and module choice. Campus bars are great however is missing a main student union

While the 1960s West campus is not the most aesthetically pleasing, the quality of the teaching, modern approach to higher education, and much more up-to-date East campus far outweighs this. The GSA provide an inclusive environment for postgrads which makes settling in much easier, and the Open Door service for mental health issues is far superior to many universities' equivalents.

From my Interview day Uni of York have been amazing. There were helpful and friendly staff and students to show you around and make you feel welcome. Freshers week you're assigned STYCs (second and third year contacts) to help you around at freshers week. Our stycs really helped me and my housemates to get to know each other as well as introducing us to the local pubs and clubs and looking after us while we were there, making sure we all stuck together and no one got lost or hurt. They introduced us to some great drinking games, without peer pressuring of course. I'm studying a maths degree and the course itself is great. Lecturers have questionnaire type things for you to give feedback on and are top notch at taking on your feedback and improving their teaching for together. The accommodation is brilliant and service teams are always quick and efficient. I'd recommend Uni of York to anyone.

In terms of teaching the university is really very good. The facilities are good, and the courses are well designed. The town is also a really nice place, good shops and restaurants. The accommodation however, is very very poor given how expensive it is. The gym facilities are very pricey for what is pretty average. The fact that you pay £3 for 1 30 minute wash is a bit of a joke too given that the cheapest accommodations are around £5,500. The nightlife is poor, but you aren't far from Leeds so not the end of the world. All in all, good uni, but you will have to put up with bad nightlife and a high price for everything.

In my flat the kitchen is a bit grim, it's liveable but from other kitchens I've seen from other uni's theirs are much nicer. My course is really fun, and the support is really good. And the campus is quirky with buildings from every decade. And the city is stunning and friendly

Beautiful campus and great library facilities. Could do more in terms of communication and student satisfaction

The campus is beautiful and not too big or small. It has lots of places to get a drink if you dont want to go clubbing in the city. My course is intensive but manageable with lots of opportunities for me to be free to choose modules and essay titles . I havent utilised any careers services yet but I assume them to be adequate. The student union appears too exclusive and not down to earth enough.

Great place, great people. Been in this unit for a year and a half now and love it. Had great experiences and love the town, university is well organised and well run. Some of the building are very old but apart from that great place!

There is a wide array of clubs and societies to join, all of which are highly inclusive and have regular socials/meet ups to get to bond outside of strictly the society's environment! Course support is varied from office hours with lecturers to supervisor meetings and even office hours with other PhD academics! Alongside this every department has a rep in the careers department to help gain industry knowledge and skills in a certain industry of choice.

York is an absolutely gorgeous city with an equally gorgeous uni campus. All my lectures are contained on the campus so it never takes me more than 5 minutes to get from lecture to lecture. My tutors have been fantastic from the get go and my supervisor is always available for a chat, if it's in person or by email. The student nights are an obvious perk too, offering cheaper entry and drinks!

The University of York offers a generally good university experience. There has been a large emphasis on mental health during my time here, which has resulted in the implementation of numerous support networks and services. The campus is well-kept and modern, even with all the aggressive geese hanging around. The student Union is well-funded and supports the largest and most varied spread of societies and clubs of any UK student union. The only real issue is the on-campus GP. Unity Health has been inadequate for years, and an independent service recently labelled it inadequate on every level. They're trying to improve, but if you can find another local GP to sign up to instead, I'd definitely recommend it.

Good campus setting and departments and good organization of freshers week and other events but student bars and restaurants are slow and expensive but the careers services are good, the societies and sports clubs are good at the student union however some of them you have to pay to join, overall it's a good university however some buildings might be updating and the restaurants, campus shops, cafes need to be more cost efficient however freshers week is very well organized and has lots of stalls and things that you can get involved in and there's lots of oppertunities for minority groups and the departments are assessable and the professors are knowledgeable and there's lots of help when you need it however the on campus clinic is very bad with appointments taking weeks to book and staff not being helpful however this is being taken care of recently and hopefully changes will be made

The courses available at the University are vast and use methods of creativity in order to aid learning. The campus as well is full of life, always and busy and everyone is always is eager to help anyone in need. In addition to this, the activities organized by the colleges are delightful and everyone tends to have a good time.

The accomodation at University of York is pretty average, the rooms and bathrooms are a decent size however the kitchen is far too small for the 16 people sharing it and there are quite a few silverfish and ants around. The facilities are fab, both departmental (great research facilities and a huge library that opens 24/7) and leisure (lots of places to eat that are cheap with lots of vegan/veggie options!) The psychology course is very in depth and always interesting, the lecturers are enthusiastic and the work is never boring! There are loads of jobs available for students in York, whether seasonal or permanent part time, and the courses send constant updates on the many careers opportunities to help gain some experience in whatever field you choose! The open day wasn't very well organised and a bit all over the place with no one sure of where I was meant to be, but don't let that put you off as since arrival the university itself has been very well organised and always has events happening so there's plenty to do!

The university as a whole is very good. The campus is beautiful with the wildlife, greenery and lake and it is like a little community as all of the accommodation is walking distance away from the campus. They have a wide range of facilities including 2 gyms and 2 libraries, and I especially enjoy the student union opportunities to get involved in sports and societies. Everything is reasonably priced and the sport societies I attend (dance and aerobics) are extremely well organised and student-led. The careers services are very helpful and we receive frequent emails updating us on available opportunities and I have used their website many times to look into volunteering opportunities in the area. They are very well organised and helpful. Staff are very helpful and there is someone you can go to with any problem which they make you aware of from day 1 which I think is very important to make students feel safe and supported.

We have some great opportunities here, with the student union constantly organising some of the best events from small sport tournaments to bungee jumping for charity. Although the campus doesn't look very picturesque it does have a charm to it and the learning facilities are wonderful. My favourite thing however is probably the gym facilities and the roses event; wonderful for people who love sport and competing. Even if the university looks fairly industrial, the city of York ddfiantly makes up for it. York is without doubt the most beautiful city in England.

York's campus buildings are not particularly attractive unless 1960s style brutalism is your thing. The lake makes up for it though -- there are definitely some Instagram-worthy views of campus. I studied English literature. The contact hours are unsurprisingly minimal. This means that there's a lot of reading and independent study involved. When I first got to Uni, it was slightly jarring to only have a couple of things to turn up to per week, but the free time you do have should be spent in the library if you're pushing for the top grades. The sports facilities are excellent, especially the Sports village on the Heslington East campus, but the cost of membership is pretty high.

Overall had a positive experience. Good selection of bars on campus. Ugly buildings but that doesn’t really affect uni experience. Politics course was varied and well taught; had some bad seminar tutors here and there and some lazy feedback but overall good. Friendly staff and nice students. Overall a nice uni experience.

I adored my time at York. The campus is all together but also close to the city centre. The growing facilities on both Hes east and hes west mean there is a lot of variety in food and drink outlets and always a good deal to be had at YUSU venues. The on site club nights are always cheap and absolutely brilliant. Only complaint is the student doctors practice. In my experience they weren't very good- particularly with mental health issues.

Campus is ideally located for access tot he town and provides a lovely sense of community. Facilities are generally good but the library is not big enough to cater for all students during exam season. Most staff members go above and beyond for their students. Mental health provisions are limited and thus has resulted in mediocre healthcare for a larger number of student s struggling with mental health. Career services are good, very hard to be seen but teach you how to get employed very well. Experience overall is a 4/5.

University of York is incredibly bureaucratic in terms of dealing with chronic illnesses. Expect difficulties.

The university offers a wide range of courses including Medicine and Nursing. It is a relatively small university population but has a variety of students from many places including international students, and is very inclusive. I study Medicine, the course is very well tailored to students who want more direct support from tutors, however the delivery of lectures at university is sometimes poor due to them, a lot of the time, being streamed inefficiently from Hull (as we are partnered with the University of Hull).
