The University of St Mark and St John was originally founded in 1840 as two separate London teaching colleges (College of St Mark; College of St John). The colleges merged in 1923, moved to Plymouth in 1973 and in 2007 were awarded University College status. With nearly 175 years' experience in teaching, University College Plymouth St Mark and St John became the University of St Mark and St John.
