A message to any girl who is looking to join a new society full of diversity in terms of both people and culture, look no further, for the society I surprised myself with even trying is one of the best for girls looking to make new friendships with fun and open minded people, whilst learning a new skill in the process. Not that I’m being gender discriminative, because everyone is welcome to join a great society where shimmy love, as we like to call it, is all around. This unique society in the university does so much more than just dancing in a studio every Monday night as well, with both beginners and advanced classes taking place. We compete in competitions with other university’s at the university of Warwick annually, the iconic name the Shimmy Off competition, where we attend workshops and then perform at the end for the prizes bring the title. The best part of the society, for me, is that no one expects you to be an expert. Classes are great ways to socialise and meet new people, with hip scarves provided every night, to enable us to shimmy our classes away. Whether you start at the beginning of the year or half way in, even just for one class, all are welcomed in, and the more the merrier. And for £3 members £4 non members per class, it’s definitely worth a try.
