The University of Birmingham

Birmingham is amazing for anything relating to sports. It has great big pitches and a great gym. However, the gym can get quite packed as you will find a lot of Birmingham students are active. The medical course is very clinical. It incorporates clinical lectures wherever it can and gives a lot of clinical exposure. It's not the best for research but it is improving. However, the worst thing is the anatomy teaching here and also not all lectures are recorded. There are a lot of facilities and the library has enough books for you.

I'm in my final year at University of Birmingham and have had a terrific time over the past three years. Our campus is gorgeous, my course and researchers/lecturers are rigorous and good quality, social life is thriving, great quality resources and facilities etc. It's been great! During my time here, I've been a Student Ambassador so have had a closer look into the inner operations/function of the University as a body and I can wholeheartedly say it is a well organised institution with good ethics and want for the best for their students. The cons of University of Birmingham are usually well balanced with a positive. For example, some of the University buildings are extremely outdated and musty e.g Ashley Building or Education building, nevertheless there is a lot of funding gone into creating brand new faciltities opening all within the next 5 years or so which is good. The student body is extremely large (c. 33,000 students) which can make you feel as if you may not receive the correct amount of attention/resources as possible. However, it is likely (after first year) the university won't baby you and you will have to seek the resources yourself. Overall, I have grown and developed a lot at UoB and have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I would recommenced the University to all those considering.

The campus is looking great due to the Green project. The only issue is facilities are closing down. The history library has been closed and is now a seminar room.

The campus around the school is extremely beautiful and stunning. Facilities wise, it's great with a newly built library most of it is advanced.

The university campus is great, it is a short walk to most buildings and the green space has made the uni look much better. I feel as though the sports that uob have to offer are so broad there is something for everyone.

Campus is great and my department specifically (English Language) are so helpful and friendly however there is generally a lack of study space and clear differences in funding between departments

Beautiful campus, very green, warm and inviting to be around! Great facilities such as the new library and plenty of space to study. I study history and the department generally is very very strong, I previously studied lanaguges too however I cannot say they were as supportive and organised. The one aspect my uni lacks is the personal touch, personal tutors do not engage too much in your welfare which is sometimes an issue! the student union is excellent and probably one of the best in the country, offering loads of societies and student nights! Overall UoB is a really strong uni!

University of birmingham is a great university with a wide range of students attending and they manage to cater for all. Facilities on campus are great so many areas you can go for several different things like study or food.

Beautiful campus with lots of nice study saves including the recently renovated Harding library which is fantastic for law students Whilst contact hours may be limited there is enough optional staff supporter available for students at any time they wish and the majority of academics are open to office hours. I have had a great experience there and would strongly recommended this university to anyone

Attending the university of birmingham allows for a balanced lifestyle between high end education that allows you to work to a high standard and also enjoy yourself and let your hair down a bit. The facilities arent limiting and there is most likely always something to cater to your educational needs.Career services are very helpful as long as you put yourself out there and actively use them.

Campus is excellent but not all the student accommodations are as nice. Really good staff though and very supportive of whatever you want to do .

The uni of Birmingham is huge and for the most part, beautiful to look at! Facilities are generally good. There are lots of handy shops, cafes, study spaces etc. The library, however, is often full to its maximum capacity and hence finding a seat in the main library can prove impossible. Staff are also generally good, but take a hands off approach. This is standard for all universities (generally) as lecturers aim to inspire your learning rather than just to teach you a set curriculum. I find this approach suits me and allows me to be independent/provides more freedom. I like living in Birmingham and the university makes the huge city feel smaller and more like home.

The campus itself is beautiful, very spacious and there's a lot of places available for you to work. Most of the lecturers I have encountered want you to do well and will put the effort and time into helping you. However, the welfare team aren't great, they offer little support and are under staffed.

The campus is gorgeous and really well maintained. The new development to provide more green space is going to be amazing too, especially in the spring and summer. It's a real delight to walk around campus. The facilities are amazing on campus, and there are plenty of study spaces. The new library is also a very good study space. There are plenty of places to eat on campus which people can use their 'meal plan' (equivalent to catered accommodation) in meaning that rather than traditional catered accommodation they can eat out and have a wide range of foods such as Asian, Mexican, British etc. My course is intense (medicine) but there is a lot of support available so you don't ever feel alone. The guild of student is also incredible (they won an award for best student union this year) and have so much going on to get involved with. The only thing about my university that could be improved is the ease of accessing the wellbeing services - there is a huge waiting list leaving people suffering with their mental health waiting for up to a month, sometimes longer, but I know they are tackling this at the moment.

Campus is great but a lot of work being done at the moment means it's a bit like a building site. Lecturers are generally good had no real problems that haven't been dealt with suitably.

The University of Birmingham has an beautiful redbrick campus with the tallest freestanding clock tower in the world keeping time for all our lectures. There are a really wide range of friendly and open societies so there really is something for everyone. Some of the facilities on my course are a little outdated but I know that there are plans for a new chemistry lab and there are new teaching labs that have just been built, so the university is committed to improving its facilities.

I spent three years here and the whole environment was very friendly. The university campus was lovely, and had excellent facilities. The tutors were very helpful the majority of the time

The University of Birmingham has exceded my expectations in terms of the experience i've had here. I've recieved excellent teaching throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate courses and have always felt that there is a wide variety of support available to me, whether that be emotional/personal support or academic. The campus is also stunning and what initially attracted me to the University; the old red brick buildings and trees gave it almost a Harry Potter feel but the new library and development has taken in to a slightly different place. While the new facilities are very much appreciated, my main criticism of the new development would be that the buildings don't really fit into the general, appealing aesthetic. Overall a very good University.

The university itself is a lovely red brick, green atmosphere. It makes you forget that you are in the outskirts of a city. The student support is good generally but there needs to be an improvement in the counselling programmes as there are not enough spaces for the students that require the help. Academically the university is highly thought of and very impressive. There is a wide range of resources available including access to world class lectures.

Great sporting facilities at this University. Campus buildings can vary in quality as expected, but the newer buildings are of great quality. The Chemical Engineering building is extremely busy and overall not a pleasurable place to work due to this. Metallurgy and Materials building is the complete opposite to this, with lots of space to do work and more appropriate desk space for PhD students.

Great university. The medical school is a beautiful building. Food and drink at the student union is fairly expensive so that could be improved. The new library building is very good. There needs to be more publicity for the careers service. Further to this, societies also need to make themselves more known on all parts of the campus, i.e. the medical college.

The campus is overall very beautiful. It has a mixture of old architecture along with new, such as the new library. However, there is lots of construction all the time therefore it is sometimes hard to appreciate it. The old library was demolished to make space for a “green area” which seems slightly gimmicky. There are not enough open study spaces to revise at, especially during exam season, which is why knocking down the old library made very little sense. My course, mechanical engineering, was overall good however was lacking in certain aspects such as lecturers who clearly did not care, this showed in their teaching, and other poorly coordinated modules, particularly the group project modules.

Uob has a beautiful campus, however it is having a huge renovation so loads of building work atm, but hopefully should be even better at the end. The university is respected and recognised by employers but is a very academic and traditional university. There are loads of extra opportunities such as socities, working for the university, getting involved in enterprise schemes or learning a new language.

The campus is beautiful but is currently being completely renovated so loads of building work, but hopefully should be even better. The university itself is a respected university but very academic. The student union is large and great. There are loads of extra opportunity such as socities, working as an ambassador, getting involved with enterprise schemes or learning a new language!
