Rowing

I joined BUBC as a Cox in October and I fell in love with the club. Unfortunately the boat house is quite far away from campus (requires 2 bus trips - around 50 minutes, or 20 minutes by car) but it is only £3 for a return bus journey and if you have a bus pass it covers both buses. There are optional socials every week and everyone is really welcoming and there is a real community feel in the club. On the whole, the equipment is good, however some of the boats are a bit worse for wear and the cox boxes don’t always attach properly. There are so many opportunities, with races all throughout the year both indoor and outdoor (ergs). As a cox, I don’t have to follow the training plan but I still do a lot of the training and still manage to have plenty of time for my degree! Rowing is typically an expensive sport but BUBC do their best to keep the costs down and make it all inclusive. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, whether they’re interested in rowing or coxing, as a novice or as someone who has rowed before.
