Founded in 1850, St Mary's University in London has a long and distinguished history. St Mary's ranks number 1 for Student Experience out of all the London universities (2018 National Student Survey). There is a strong focus on high quality teaching with St Mary's achieving Silver in the Teaching Excellence Framework 2017.

The university has a welcoming community of around 5,500 students, 10% of whom are international. It offers a nurturing environment with a high level of support from our staff and student services, helping students to quickly feel at home.

St Mary's is one of London's top-performing sports institutions and provides students with Olympic-quality sports facilities equipped to world-class standards. Other popular subjects include business management, law, criminology and sociology, acting, creative writing, psychology and physics.

Nightlife

The large riverside towns of Kingston and Richmond are just a short bus ride away, and you will find a huge range of entertainment there. Cinemas, live music venues, pubs, nightclubs, several theatres, and a bowling alley await you. Kingston nightclubs offer special deals for St Mary's students and you will find other discounts for students in the area. On top of this, central London is just 30 minutes away by train from Strawberry Hill to Waterloo. Public transport is frequent and runs late so it's easy to get to and from the University.

Halls of residence

University accommodation is guaranteed for first year undergraduate students and this is either on-campus or a short walk or bus ride away. There is also postgraduate accommodation available, conveniently located near Twickenham Station, fifteen minutes walk from campus. Some postgraduates opt for private accommodation in the nearby residential areas. All on-campus accommodation (with several halls to choose from) includes a meal plan, making this option very good value.

Location

Situated in a safe, green suburb near the River Thames, St Mary's campus is only half an hour from central London, offering students the best of both worlds. The university is located in the grounds of a gothic castle, on a beautiful campus. You'll find plenty of convenient local amenities right on your doorstep since the high streets of Teddington and Twickenham are within walking distance and offer a good range of shops, restaurants and pubs. St Mary's is also in an excellent location for finding part-time jobs too.

Clubs and societies

There are around 50 clubs and societies where you can get involved with anything from Business Enterprise to Radio production. As one of London's top sports universities, there are also plenty of sports for you to try your hand at including athletics, cricket, football, pilates, cheerleading or ultimate frisbee! It doesn't matter whether you're a beginner or one of our next Olympic athletes, there's something for everyone.

Freshers' week

The Big Hello Freshers 2018 includes both daytime and evening events based on and around campus and in London. The Big Hello is your chance to meet new people and get settled into university life at St Mary's. It'll contain nights out, club and society events, more relaxed events in our lovely cafe on campus and loads more. International students have their own three-day induction event as well, before everyone else arrives. This includes tours of the campus and local area, info sessions on practicalities such as opening a bank account, and a scavenger hunt around London.

Campus is not too big but makes it easier to make friends from different courses. Enough facilities for everyone with two separate libraries. Course is also great and enjoying it so far.

St Mary’s Is a fantastic university especially if you are a sports student as there are many opportunities to get involved in taster sessions a variety of clubs and gain experience in the sports industry. The staff in the centre for work place learning and careers centre are very hands on when it comes to helping you find employment in your field. You will never feel alone, the lecturers are also very nice and supportive when you put effort into your studies.
