Overall it's a decent university; the student facilities are good and it's a great city. But the contact time for most courses is not enough; we're now paying £9,000 worth of debt and the quality of teaching and the amount of time we get with our lecturers has not improved. You can't charge students fees but not improve the service you're providing. This is not only an issue in Cardiff but is more of a nationwide issue. The university has done well with creating more services to support student wellbeing and mental health and that's brilliant but they are mostly student led services which can only do so much. I have volunteered at Nightline since my first year and while I think what we and the other SLS' do is crucial and so so important, we can only go so far to help and support fellow students. There needs to be significantly more funding put into the student support and counselling service which does such an amazing job and just needs more money to expand and cut the huge waiting times for students desperately in need of help.

The students union building is one of the best in the UK. It is a very big Building which has nearly everything, shops, study spaces and hairdressers, you name it. It also turns into a club in the night! The biological sciences course in Cardiff can do with some improvement, they seem a bit unorganised and the app can do with an update.

Lecturers are experience and good at teaching. However, as always there is the one incomprehensible lecturer. Facilities provided at the sports village is insufficient. There is no swimming pool! That is unacceptable.

Overall, I have somewhat enjoyed my experience here so far. The student union is great and there are many facilities within it - I like the fact that it is run by students as well; it reflects student voice. Since my course is in a new building, the campus is far away from the SU and other campuses so it feels rather isolated from the rest. There is also not much within the building itself - would be better if it had a cafe for example. Nevertheless, it is a new building so I contend that it would not have a variety of facilities. However, as for the course itself.... I have done 2 essays and will soon be participating in an in-class test, but honestly, I feel like I haven't had much support in doing these tasks to the best of my ability. The assignments and tests seem rather abrupt and sudden in my opinion. Other than that, I have enjoyed the course so far.

A good university but not a lot of programme support within nursing. The lecturers often give different answers to student questions. There is never one answer and lectures are often cancelled last minute.

I think that Cardiff University is a great place to come if you're from an area that's is close by as there seems to be a lot of people who already know each other that come here. The campus itself is very spread out and each lecture is in a different building which can be frustrating but also allows you to see everywhere. I think that the students union is really good but the balls and celebrations held could be much better

The student's union was awesome, it held loads of different activities regularly and providing a wide range of services in the building. The campus was also nice with a garden and a park nearby and quite accessible to the town centre. Yet, the course arrangement isn't as efficient and i didn't get to take the classes I'm interested in due to time clashed, but I only knew that not long before the classes started.

Cardiff University has been very keen to improve its services in terms of support and communication with students

Overall i am happy with the course and the lectures, but there is a lack of organisation in the chemistry department. Also i have found an unfair marking system on some of the work as the marks vary largely depending on the marker.

This is a review for the nursing campus based at the Heath Hospital. The teaching I think is great, everything about it is fantastic. Just the facilities aren’t great. The buildings are very much run down, especially those in the main hospital. They haven’t seen much attention! The IT facilities aren’t fantastic and the WiFi regularly drops. The courses however are brill and being at Cardiff uni will make you better

A nice campus with nice people and environment. We have a pretty brilliant student union, they organise some great activities and nights out, as well as serious stuff, like careers fairs, that are actually really helpful. The campus might not be the most beautiful, but the facilities are very good. The library is huge with loads of seating (this is a big deal!) and the gym is really good.

Strikes were very inconvenient. Good facilities and support for students. Overall I live the uni and the course just wish that strikes were handled more professionally

Nice city campus but some uni halls are too far away from the buildings. Should have more 24 hrs library and common study area and sports facilities but overall still a good place

I’m a first year law student at Cardiff University, and I must admit my experience so far has not been what I was expecting. On the open days the university made a big hype about how excellent the teaching here is. But after two semesters, I’m certain I have taught myself more than the actual lecturers. On the first week they admitted the law course was more independent learning based, which is fine, but as I’ve discovered, the course is a tad bit too independent. I have spoken to fellow students in my course and they feel the same way. There is not enough support given to understand particularly hard topics either. I have resorted to the use of the internet to help me understand these particular topics. Not only that, but due to the strikes that have taken place this year, some of the lecturers have told us to teach ourselves the topic from a PowerPoint they have uploaded. This is disappointing as well as annoying, because this is not what I’m paying £9000 a year for. Not only that, but for other topics we have missed, the university has not come to a decision as to whether they will be included in our end of year exam, which is even more frustrating! Tutorials that have also been cancelled due to the strikes, the tutors have emailed, stating that they will not be rescheduled. This is unfair and gives some students a disadvantage, as not all of the tutors were striking, so some tutorials went ahead as normal while others were cancelled. These tutorials are designed specifically to help us understand the work better and ask questions if need be. It is because of that reason some students now have a disadvantage. I’ve been heavily disappointed with the teaching, as it does not reach the standards the university was making it out to be. The only excellent lecturer I’ve had this year is Cathy from the criminal module. She is excellent and actually provides additional information when lecturing, instead of just reading off a PowerPoint. Another disappointment is the Law Society. It costs £18 for a membership for a year, and since I started in September there has only been three socials. This is disappointing as the purpose of these socials was to meet others in the course, yet we’ve hardly had the chance to! I must admit, the society is excellent for arranging events to meet with law firms, but this seems to be the only benefit of joining this society. I have already decided I will not be joining again next year, as I do not believe it is worth the money. Aside from this, the facilities at the university are good. The student union is excellent and always holds lots of events. I would suggest for future students, if you’re not particularly fond of intense individual learning, then Cardiff University is not the best place for you. If I was told this before accepting my offer, I would have reconsidered going to this university.

Great city, but not enough consideration for students at university, languages degree is very poor and is not devoted enough to the language taught.

The university is situated in one of the best student cities in the country. With the main body of the campus stretching along one road between the accommodation and the city centre. Nothing is Cardiff is too far to walk, which is great. The facilities at the university are always improving with millions being pumped into a centre for student life. Sadly the support of the physics department is detriment to student life. We are the bottom of the priority sometimes and do not get the support we are paying for

The campus buildings might be quite old but the uni has so many good facilities like the students union and lots of study space
