Great attractions to view during the day, whether that be with your family or individually. Fairly decent clubs for a night out too, avoid fibbers!! There's always something wrong with fibbers, from no air con and it been way too hot to leaks in the building.

York is a beautiful historic city with plenty of places to eat or just spend a day in the shambles. While nightlife is a little quieter than other cities there's plenty of trendy bars to spend an evening in.

Lovely calm town with plenty of sceneic areas and sightseeing. Highstreet shopping is becoming sparse but there are fantastic pubs and boutiques.

I love york, there is always something for everyone. There is many places to eat, even at 2am. The food varies from different cuisine, French, Italian, Indian and pub. York, also has the famous Yorkshire pudding wraps which are amazing. They also have the classic including McDonalds and pizza hut. York also have many different events that go on, which you can buy different unique things, once I was able rhubarb and gin favour Jam. It has the same shops as most high streets, however it also has the little quirky shops too. York also has the Harry potter shop which is very popular and can have people queuing for a looking their store.

York is a very viberent and cultural city. There's a lot of site seeing including the Minster and surrounding areas. It's very rich in history so if that's your thing is worth checking out. The student night life is also amazing with many clubs with music ranging from bassline, house and indie. There is something for everyone here.

York University is a campus based, but compared to other unis, it is pretty close to city - about 15-20 min walk from campus, or less than 10 minutes on the bus. York is a college based uni, chosen by your choice of accommodation. Each college has some of their own sports teams, in addition to the main uni teams. Freshers week is organised by the individual colleges, so it’s a good way to be eased into uni life without meeting everyone in one go. There’s a good mix of pubs, clubs and bars in town - most have a happy hour or 2 for 1 on drinks, so it’s a good place for day drinking by the river or going out! Night life on the whole is good. Student nights are £5 entry on tues, wed, thurs & sun. Drinks on a student night are well priced £2.50/£3 for a double (compared to about +£8 in London). Relative to bigger cities, like Leeds, the clubs are smaller - so depends what you’re used to. But Leeds is only 20 min on train - so if you want something bigger, then you can! There are good transport links to york. Train to Leeds is 20 min, London is les than 2 hours. Local taxis & uber operate. The uni buses, 66 & 66A, run 1 every 10 minutes and then 66N run hourly past midnight - so can use it on night out. Bus is £1.80 for single of £2 for return - anywhere along bus route & are for pubic use as well. The bus between East & West campus is free between campuses. Many other bus routes from city centre, like one to the designer shopping outlet. The shambles is where many independent shops - both food & clothes are located, but York also had plenty of chain companies, which gives you lots of choice for coffee, brunch, lunch & dinner. Some places are more pricey, but as a student you learn to just avoid these, so on the whole restaurants are just average price. There’s quite a few free attractions in the city centre, like the castle museum & art gallery. Other various things to do such as cinema, trampoline park, boat trips. Everyone is super friendly as well :) For food shopping, Aldo is accessible by bus, or about 25 min walk from campus. Coop is 10 min walk from campus & offers 10% student discount with NUS card. There’s also a Morrison’s & Asda in town, as well as Tesco and Sainsbury’s express in centre of town. There’s a Nisa on both campuses (although this is more expensive compared to other shops).

York is so beautiful with great transport and places to eat and drink! Great shopping and easy to get to and from when needing to be at uni!

The nightlife isn’t amazing but the city itself is just the right size to explore everything without having to travel too far. The city centre is a maze of cobbled streets and hidden alleyways with countless independent shops and restaurants, not to mention one of the best selections of pubs in the country. Plus it’s in the north so prices are decent as well, and the infamous Minster is a building that never fails to impress

Excellent university. Loads of clubs and societies, a really nice campus close to the city centre, which is really nice. Accomodation is good too.

Lot's of restaurants, including vegan and vegetarian, so great options all round. Lots of interesting festivals in town over the year (ie. food,music.. small local). Good transport links, can get to london within 2 hours from the station. University buses reasonably reliable, and nightlife is okay but not the best if you expect loads. But links to Leeds are quick and easy nonetheless.

It's a lovely location, with lots of good attractions and a busy city centre. It is easy to travel around the centre of York.

York is a beautiful, cultural and historic city. I have had a fantastic 10 months living here whilst studying at the university. Most undergraduates live on campus or very close to it, which means a 20 minute walk to the city centre or a 10 minute drive. I lived half way between the university and town which I found worked out well as I had a part time job in the city centre. York is an amazing city for cycling and I have enjoyed having my first bike since being a child! Some very quirky bars and cafes which is always good to have.

The city is beautiful, very scenic however I feel that there is a lack of cultural diversity. I found I was being told one to many times by taxi drivers, customers at my part time job that people of colour have only been I york over the last 10 years. The quality of food is amazing but I feel the City shopping facilities are too small and the travel fair is too expensive in order to go to the shopping outlet, which only provides bigger versions of what the high street already provides. With that being said the people are friendly and the university is amazing the campus is big but also provides a small amount of places to eat. But the bus service is free for me anyway and the quality of teaching is very high.

York is a beautiful city. There are endless characterful cobbled streets to wonder down, and a huge vibrant selection of independent coffee shops to study in and chat with friends. It's a fun and friendly place to go to uni, and particularly stunning during Christmas time.

York is an amazing city! Although not the wildest, it's a fun night out with everything in walking distance (and if you are feeling lazy a bus) and a whole range of bars, pubs and clubs. Plus none of it's that expensive and no pre buying of tickets for clubs so just see how you feel on the night. It has everything you need and all within the safe environment of this beautiful city.

There’s lots of things to do; whether it’s for family-friendly days out or for a night out. It’s really easy to get around York and the people always seem very friendly. It can be a bit pricey, but there does tend to be lots of discounts available to students.

York is a beautiful, historic city, ideal for shopping and little cafés. There are plenty of things to see and do - museums, clubs and bars, cinemas and a beautiful park in the centre of the city. Depending on the type of entertainment you are looking for it can be a little pricey but is well worth it. The train station is near the centre and the bus service is reliable, meaning it is very easy to travel to nearby towns and cities. Whilst York is perhaps not ideal if you are desperate for a vibrant nightlife, what it does offer is more than adequate for the average student. Not only that but the city itself is renowned for its beauty with historical sights such as York Minster and the city's surrounding wall.

I live in Leamington Spa and study at Warwick University. While the commute is a bit of a pain - particularly at prime time in the morning and afternoon when all the cars are on the road - I am so glad to be able to live in Leamington rather than Coventry. Full of cute little cafes, shops, clubs and glorious parks, Leamington is where any parent should want their child to live when they leave home. It’s expensive but you get what pay for, the people are friendly and there’s a lot to do in just a small place for students and residents alike. Coffer Architects often has a queue out of the door and it is nice to see locals as well as students out and about. What a lovely corner of the world!

Overall the uni is in an excellent location and there are loads of places to eat and drink. However, your are limited on clubs to go to and I find shopping is not as good as bigger cities like Leeds, but both these factors are still good just not excellent.

For the first place to live in after moving out of your family home from a small town it is probably the best city you could ask for. It comes with all the positive features of a city, the shopping, the night life and amazing festivals regularly mixed in with the safety feeling of living in a town, IN THE CENTER! I love it!

Great location. 20 minute walk to the center and many shops and things to do near by. Good to be a bit out as it is quieter.
