Close walk to uni, helpful reception staff, good facilities (e.g laundry, gym, music room). Close to bus stops with 20 minute journey to town. Cleaners and maintenance are friendly and helpful

Close to campus, easily walkable distance Facilities were good enough - gym on site although was very small

Good location only a 10 minute walk from campus, good social group. Reception staff are very helpful and good bus links to the city centre. Feels safe to be a night as there’s 24/7 security. My room is big with a double bed, any maintenance issues are fixed promptly and although it’s expensive it’s good for what you get.

Very comfortable living environment. Lots of room to socialise with added extensions for study purposes. Gym located at the back of Glen Eyre was very convenient. Tv lounge in chamberlain is great! Always a good place to meet friends. Rooms were good sizes, sufficient room to work, bathroom practical and clean. Maintainence service always getting the job done in good time. Reception consistently sending emails for post when appropriate and on top of things. Glen eyre was a stones throw from university campus and convenient bus route was located outside of halls to get into town.

Good halls! Close to university and quite enough to study. Only disadvantage is that hall's socials are not well organised and the hall's bar is usually closed.

The room is nice and there are lots of cupboard space in the room and in the kitchen. However i wanted a quiet room and I wasn't put with people who wanted the same.

Location was ideal as it was only a 10 minute walk to my lecture so I could just roll out of bed and go to my lecture and come back whenever I needed to. The room was standard but really enjoyable living experience and the kitchen was big and spacious and was regularly cleaned which helped with the aftermath of the drinking the night before.

Really close to campus and very large halls so quite sociable if you like that! I was in Selbourne court with an ensuite room. The room had a single bed, a massive desk and faced the forest so was quite quiet. There were 4 of us in our flat which is risky but I was lucky enough to get on with them! Only downsides - laundry (Circuit) was awful, wifi was quite poor at times and residential services could be a little unhelpful at times.

Great social atmosphere as there are so many various blocks which a large amount of my course mates live in so it's easy to meet up with them to walk to lectures. My particular block is really close to the laundry room and reception too which is extremely handy. The only downsides I have found living here for the semester I have been here so far is that some of the staff are rude and passive-aggressive. When we first came in to our particular flat, the oven nor hob wasn't working and so, of course, we sent multiple maintenance requests. It took until the Thursday of freshers week for it all to be fixed and at the end of it all we were left a passive aggressive note by the maintenance man. I've also found that the staff manning reception can be equally as rude sometimes too and sometimes a little useless. Of course, the fact that our oven wasn't working and it took them so long to fix it is why I'm giving the accommodation only 4 stars as opposed to 5. Overall though, once our oven was fixed, we've had minimal issues and if they have arose, staff have been quick to fix them.

I've been in two blocks within Glen Eyre as I moved flats halfway through semester one of first year. The accommodation is definitely worth the money you pay for it and the location is perfect as it is only 15 minute walk away from campus. Plus, even if you don't fancy walking, the buses are frequent from outside Chamberlain halls. Glen Eyre is probably the most social halls complex I've visited so far as there are so many blocks packed into one complex. Definitely would recommend picking here if you are looking at going for halls. Only downside is that cleaners sometimes don't clean thoroughly but that's usually because the kitchen is messy. Also the maintenance team are good but sometimes do not fix things fully resulting in you having to re-report things.

Glen Eyre location is fabulous. Richard Newitt Courts specifically are quite old and antisocial. The kitchens aren’t really worth the money and terrible for hosting.

In 'new terrace' halls - Loads of storage in bedroom and kitchen. But not much storage space in en-suite bathroom. Cleaners keep the communal areas very clean. Had some problems with the fridge and oven, they were replaced fairly quickly. 24h reception desk was very handy for accepting deliveries. Laundry room sometimes was too busy and you couldn't get a machine. Lots of grass-y areas to sit in summer, and a few barbecues that were free to use. '24h Study Room' available during exam time - very useful if someone in the block was being noisy and the library was too far to walk to. Fairly far from any supermarkets or take-aways.

The social experience is outstanding, I have made friends with a lot of my neighbours and I get on very well with everyone else. It is a very unique experience that I have never experienced before, something definitely worth doing if a teenager. The facilities are pretty good, the common room has a PS4 which could be lended out and I played games with some friends a few times, very good way to relax and socialise that doesn't involve drinking. However my room is something I wasn't completely happy with, everything is descent apparatus from one deal-breaker for myself - faulty heating. At one point the room was being heated to the extent I couldn't sleep, with all the radiators turned off they still have off a lot of heat, and the exposed pipes contributed to the problem. The very nice and polite service team attempted to deal with the problem, but they took a few days to get there. Unfortunately the solution didn't suit my need either, as the heating was turned completely off and it was very cold in the whole flat for a few days. Otherwise than that, the room and the flat is descent, kitchen door was coming off its hinges, the kitchen sink wasn't working for a week and the carpets are a bit... Old and used I guess would be the way to describe them (after all Orchard Newitt is the one of the oldest accomodations in Southampton apparently, and it even used to be a military site). Overall, quite a mixed cocktail of experiences, mostly good with some major issues here and there.

Chamberlain Halls- Very homely, big rooms, good sized kitchens, good neighbours, close to campus, easily accessible, ensuite so very good. Double beds are good too, not too crowded only 8 people per flat. Very modern however lacks parking spaces.

Jellicoe is a really nice part of Glen Eyre and the newer part I stayed in. They have slightly smaller rooms than the other parts of Glen but the facilities are amazing! The shared bathroom is big and spacious, and I found there was never an issue with sharing as the number of people in our flat was 6 and we had two bathrooms. The rooms have really good storage space and it’s quite a sociable hall.

Glen Eyre - Chamberlain halls are absolutely first class, these halls have amazing new modern features that cater to every persons needs as well as amazing communal features.

Not too far from campus- could roll out of bed and be in a lecture in 10 minutes. Really nice, green, open feel to the halls with a big field and BBQ. Friendly community atmosphere where everyone knows everyone. Good washing/drying facilities, and a small but handy gym.

Common room never really cleaned properly. Flat is not particularly cleaned well and done rarely and will not fully clean it when they do. Not enough washing machines (2 for 3 blocks of students). Room is quite spacious but the beds are not very sturdy and will move just by sitting on them.

Really good location, nice green outdoor social area, well kept but old fashioned, small cold rooms

It’s quite a mix. Chamberlain is the best, with Hartley and south hill second, then the general red brick blocks in glen and last are selbourne, bruei. Usually a quiet bunch

Ideal halls for first year students. Well located to the University and Sainsbury's. Useful bus service to town too.

Stayed one year in Harley Grove and one year in New Terrace, both lovely, spacious ensuite rooms. Relatively quiet halls, lots of nature around, very close to campus. A bit of a pain to get back to after a night out (30-40 mins from portswood), but relatively safe walk though residential areas. Chamberlain is newly renovated. Always had problems with the shower temperatures, it requires fixing multiple times a year.
