Ranmoor/Endcliffe

I stayed in Derwent, in the Endcliffe village. It was a 10 person flat on the ground floor, all en-suite rooms and was self-catered. The type of the accommodation, at least for my block and the other newer ones, was very modern and typical of what you see at lot of universities nowadays. It’s not massive, but big enough for a year. The common space in the flat wasn’t really large enough for all 10 people to be in there doing things (apart from chatting/pres etc) at the same time. There were two ovens and two hobs between the 10 of us, so could get crowded at times. As a student village, Endcliffe is ideal. With a bar/pub, village shop and catering halls on site, it has everything you really need. It’s a short walk from some larger ‘local’ shops, but quite a trek from the nearest big supermarket, so best to get a taxi/drive there with a few others to save money. My major downside when it comes to Endcliffe is the distance from uni: it’s approximately 25-30 minutes walk, and to the city centre it’s about 45. Whilst most people in first year are located in Endcliffe, it’s unfortunate that it takes so long to get to town, and more often than not, you will take a taxi (though if split between 5/6 of you it would only be about £1 each).

Location was miles away at Ranmoor from university and a bit of a walk to... well anything really, but it was quieter than Endcliffe which looked like a nightmare on a night if you enjoy sleep! It’s random who you get put with, and you can’t guarantee you will get a long with them, however you can always get on with the people in other flats in your building and everyone gets to know each other really fast. 3am fire alarms aren’t the best thing to get up to and it’s expensive for what you get really. But overall good for experience.

Very social accommodation as big student village so people always around and flat parties easy to get to. Rooms are fairly modern and nice. Big kitchen with everything you realistically need. However is far from the city centre and at the top of a hill so walking back from anywhere is long, although it’s not too far from the uni - about 20 minute walk.

the location is nice - a very good area and lots of food shops/pubs/restaurants/cafes nearby walking distance away. 25 minute walk from campus and the actual accomodation and facilities are great.

•Good location close to uni •everything close on site with edge bar and the village shop • never any difficulty with finding washing machines etc. • security always in vehicles on site • easy to get cabs / Uber’s in to town • rooms maintained had new curtains; ovens; sofas put in during my stay • very close to botanical gardens and Endcliffe park • seems very expensive though considering house/ rent rate prices for years 2&3, and Moreno expensive than my friends at other unis

Halls were very clean and spacious and the arrangement of them into flats made the experience very social. The kitchen was large and spacious so many parties could be held in there also making it easy to make friends.

Halls here was great fun, i had a huge kitchen with loads of space and all my friends were relatively close by. Downside was that the walk to uni was around 30 minutes to the top of campus, but longer if you were in a building further south. Also washing facilities for clothes are a pain to walk to and use in general.

Good location and facilities provided. Useful that there was a shop/bar onsite. Rooms were a good size

I think Sheffield Halls are exceptionally good. The facilities are all new, the layout of the rooms and the communal areas are social and easy to keep clean. The edge provides a space with a pub with social games on every night. There is also exercise classes that are on free every day. The edge also has a restaurant. Endcliffe itself is a beautiful location with stunning greenery and rolling hills. The only down side is that is far from the university.

Good social life, not too far from morrisons and it doesn’t get too rowdy but the walk to the diamond is so long, easy bus to get there but still just long.

Ravenstones is a bit dead tbh. Room is good, lots of storage. Kitchen is a decent size. Ranmoor is further from uni than endcliffe which is annoying.

Ranmoor is certainly inferior to Endcliffe with the lack of any facility like the Edge building as our equivalent never has anything running and the bar is always closed. The kitchen is very spacious and no complaints with cupboard spaces or worktop space. The rooms are well designed and although a personal preference of a 3/4 bed would be nice, there are not many downsides to the rooms themself.

Stephenson Hall, F block. Really social, with 16 people living in one block. Although there is no communal space, we all spent a lot of time in each other's rooms and all went to dinner together every night for the whole year. The rooms are pretty big, bigger than South Wing, and although the food isn't the best there's quite a lot of variety.

Endcliffe is a fair distance (half hour walk) from the main university areas, and Ranmoor is even further. However, once you get there, the actual Endcliffe village is pretty nice: there's lots of outdoor green space so it feels a bit like a park - members of the public walk their dogs through it which is pretty cute. There is an onsite bar that feels like a bad Spoons but is alright for a drink or two/the start of a bar crawl/watching sports. There is also an onsite shop but it's fairly expensive, so best saved for those snack related emergencies. My room is in Endcliffe Vale flats, which is self catered shared bathroom accommodation. It's bigger than I expected and has a decent size desk, a wardrobe, and a sink. The actual shared bathrooms aren't too bad either, although the kitchen could be improved by a bit more fridge space. We have all inclusive bills which is pretty sweet too.

Staying in Endcliffe village was nice, for its separation from the university campus and its proximity to local amenities such as the Broomhill shops. The Edge was a nice option to have for food or even to go to the pub quizzes/exercise classes put on there. The rooms were of a decent size with a lot of storage. Maintenance issues were dealt with quickly. However, I do think rent prices could have been slightly lower for what you pay for.

Enjoyed living in student halls, was really good living in a student village as all your friends are close by. Location was fairly far from uni but there was shops and pubs in the village and close by, security and reception was 24/7 and always helpful

Halls are a great place to live, I’ve loved making friends and building ge community with other students mostly all in first year, it’s been a lovely experience. Endcliffe is about 20/25 mins walk from uni which is a good distance, I like the walk each day. Facilities are great, the Edge is a great centre to the village with cafe, shop, bar and handy laundrette and cash machines. There’s always lots of events going on in the bar and activities to try out. My room is perfect size, good storage space with a nice ensuite, the only complaint I have is that rent is quite expensive, £130 a week.

Close to shops and only a 30 minute slow walk to Uni. Bus stop on the toad right outside which takes you into town. Lots of options for same sex/catered/en-suite accommodation.

The accommodation has such a community feel and is in a really nice location. The facilities are decent however the flats could be updated slightly.

Room is a good size. Kitchen is a bit small, but there is plenty of cupboard space. Alas there are no sofas in crescent flats 😥

We were lucky to be put in a smaller flat, with large living space. Rooms were also reasonable size with good storage, and the obvious benefit of en-suite showers. Location to uni is a little bit far out, but proximity to shops (and the peaks!) was brilliant.

I lived in an en-suite flat with 9 other students, we were located right in the centre of Endcliffe so had great access to the bar, small shop and reception. The flat was a great size and we often hung out in the living area until the early morning, it was great to have that communal space but also to have our own -good sized- rooms to hide in when needed! Maintainence normally responded in good time and we didn't have too many issues. Great access to taxis for nights out or buses when needing to get to the station. A 25 minute walk from the main part of uni made it feel like you were living in a city community as well as a student community - that was great! The only downside for me (engineering students have a lot of 9ams!) was how loud it could get as you tried to sleep but investing in a good pair of ear plugs if you'll be in this situation should sort that! All in all I would highly recommend

Crescent Flats, Decent room size that are quite spacious, very small and dated communal space, however brilliant social life, and very run people.
