Ranmoor/Endcliffe

Great accommodation, decent sized rooms and very big kitchen. Good ensuite and everything feels up to date. The walk to uni is about 25 minutes but going past morrisons everyday is useful.

I spent the first year at University of Sheffield living in Endcliffe. I loved living here, mainly because everyone was so close together, you were never more than a 5min (10 if in Ranmoor) walk from your mates. The edge bar was such a good place to just hang out, the food was good, cheap pints and pool tables and TVs, the launderette is really close and could generally always had a machine spare, the flats got cleaned every fortnight in the communal areas and the rooms were pretty spacious with comfy bed and an ensuite. Downsides are: it's a tad bit pricey, but you're paying for the atmosphere really, bit a of walk to uni but after a while it really isn't that bad, plus the bus drops you off pretty close to the apartments, and the shop is quite expensive, but Morrison's, Tesco and Sainsbury's are literally a 10min walk from the flats. In general 10/10 would recommend unless the price is a bit too high, the atmosphere is great and it's so easy to get together with friends.

Halls are located in safe, picturesque surroundings and everything is fairly close together. Endcliffe has a little village shop which is convenient for essentials if a bit overpriced. It also has a bar/restaurant and cafe. Ranmoor has considerably less. Flats and rooms are of a good standard, although some people with ten flatmates sometimes have smaller kitchen and living areas than those with five which doesn't really make sense. The maintenance people are not very good/quick at sorting out repairs or dealing with complaints. In our flat we had a leaky pipe and rotting cupboard for months, meaning that one of my flatmates had to store all of her things in boxes on the counter instead of the cupboard. This wasn't sorted out properly until a few months before moving out, despite multiple emails from us and visits down to reception to report the issue. Endcliffe is a good 25 minute walk from the main uni area, which I thought was a bit too far. Ranmoor is even further away.

Location is a 25 minute walk from the university and a 10 minute walk to the nearest shop. However, it is in a nice area with plenty of restraurants and parks nearby. These rooms are the most social it is easy to makes friends with your flat and in some cases the whole block. Rooms are good enough but nothing special. The residence life program is a big part of what you pay for, including free gym, lots of classes and activities and having a mentor. The mentor may not seem useful at first but the the moment you are in need they provide a quick and skilled response.

Endcliffe is a bit of a trek from uni/ the city centre but being a whole little village itself- equipped with a shop and bar- that doesn't really matter (There's also a bus stop right by it). The atmosphere around the place is always amazing there's always people around and lively parties with open invites. I loved my room and especially my little en-suite. The rest of the flat was nothing special but once we decorated and put a tv in the kitchen it was well used and well-loved by everyone.

Endcliffe is a really nice place to live, it's well looked after, clean and got lots to do around it.

The rooms are quite small and the furniture is dated for the amount it costs. However, the village store and the edge are both handy facilities to have near to the accommodation.

Great accommodation. Facilities are reasonably modern and rarely broke, and were fixed very quickly when they did so. Very social atmosphere and a good bar on site with cheap drinks and a large screen for sports. Always felt safe and didn't hear of any theft on site. However the site is a fair distance from the campus and I cannot understand why a gym wasn't built on the site as this is similar distance away. Would highly recommend to any first year student.

Living in Crewe hall, which is standard accommodation. The rooms are big and everything is in pretty good condition, and my flat is great. Showers get blocked sometimes though. Definitely glad I went here

the location is a bit far out, as it's a half an hour walk to uni, and 45 mins to town. It's really nice being in a student village with everyone but the flats themselves are not very modern, and only have single beds which is a downside. Overall good accommodation.

Endcliffe is a wonderful halls for the most part. Modern design, good location, the Edge opposite provides cheap food, cheap pub and free activities and classes like sports and yoga. The staff are always there so if something goes wrong they will come within minutes to fix them The best part about Endcliffe is how is looks, the green spaces, the little lake by Vale flats, the ducks, the steps, the trees. It's got a really rural feel even though it's in a city. The only thing is the rooms are a bit small but it's expected in halls.

It is in a really lovely location, however a 30 minute walk from uni. The rooms are nice and maintenance are very good at responding. Our kitchen is very spacious and has good facilities. The only down side is lack of cupboard space. But overall very good

Social block that is very close to the edge and a 20 min walk from the Uni, Can get very noisy sometimes as a lot of people come and go near you Good block to meet a lot of ppl

Endcliffe Village is University of Sheffield's biggest student residence village. Depending on which part of Endcliffe you live in your walk to the SU and the surrounding buildings may vary with the average walking time being around 25 minutes. The walk to West Street's bars and pubs is around 30 minutes but there buses going there from Endcliffe frequently. In Endcliffe there are separate buildings for students who have been allocated a shared bathroom, en-suite or self-catered residence hall. Within each flat you'll be separated into flats of 5-10 people. Depending on the size of your flat and your flatmates your experience may differ but nost studentd tend to find living in halls very social. If this is not for you, don't worry as you can inform the university of your desire to live in a less socially active and more quite environment. The room sizes depend on what type of accommodation you have gone for, shared bathroom halls tend to have bigger rooms due to the fact that there is not a bathroom in your room. Having said this the size of the en-suite rooms are still big enough for you to fit all of your belongings and still not feel cramped afterwards. The only downside I noticed is the high price for accommodation. Yes, en-suite flats are not cheap but they can certainly be found for a lot lower price than what the University offers them for and closer to the campus.

I was in Endcliffe and it is great as it is secluded in its own village away from everything else however it was a long walk back from nights out etc. I was on bottom floor so had difficulties sleeping as everyone would be loud coming back from nights out every night. Especially nice during summer when everyone sits on the grass with BBQs.

I lived in derwent flats in first year, it was good but wayyyy too pricey. Yes it was one of the nicer buildings but the social aspect was awful, only ever socialised with my flat. It's a good distance from uni but that hill

Endcliffe and ranmoor are great as this is where the majority of first year students live meaning your friends are neve more than 5 minutes away. Most rooms have en-suite bathrooms, which was a must for me as one doesn't have to share a bathroom with people you don't know who may not be the cleanest. There is 24/7 security which means you never feel unsafe whilst in your flat or walking around endcliffe at night. However as it's such a bit village there are many maintenance issues, which are usually fixed quickly, but are an inconvenience

Lived in Crewe flats which is very close to endcliffe, great size rooms. social aspect is almost entirely luck if you get a large flat of 10 then guaranteed a few people will be sociable and go out with you etc. everything was pretty great.

Relatively modern facilites within ensuite rooms although it is ageing a bit. Good sound proofing between rooms and heating works well. Everyone is relatively close together. Kitchen is a bit small but is good for pres. Its in a very nice green part of the city but is a bit far from the uni campus with a 25 min walk. Is also about a 30 to 45 min walk from the city centre meaning you probably need to take the bus. Overall is probably one of the newer better halls in the Uk, although there are better ones at other unis.

Facilities were great in the rooms and flats, but ranmoor culd have done with a shop like endcliffe. The ridge was good fun but not sure why it was only ever my flat in there !

Really nice rooms, ensuite, good kitchen facilities, kept clean by a cleaner who comes every 2 weeks. Each room is well equipped with a large desk which is really useful. The location is really good. Short walk from the university buildings and from shops and parks. The grounds are really nice, especially in the summer. Lots of grass and flowers an even a pond. Village store and the Edge are both really useful to have nearby. Very social as most 1st year students live in Endcliffe and Ranmoor. There is very little choice as all rooms are the same which means there are no cheap options. However, this does mean that everyone is mixed together so there is no voluntary segregation of richer/poorer students which is good

The Endcliffe village is perfect for those that don't mind a bit of a walk to uni and the nearest town, and that appreciate greenery! Beautiful fields, trees etc. There's a village store on site which is good for emergencies but quite expensive! Downside is that it is quite a loud area (as you'd expect with students) and I found it difficult to get to sleep 50% of the time because of the noise.

The accomodation was comfortable and well located, near the shops, near other students and not far from university too. There were on-site laundry facilities as well as a bar, cafe, and a small store.
