The Forge

My room was quite cold and “ran down”. There were ongoing maintenance issues all year. But, in terms of the size of the room, I was quite pleased as I had enough space to make it my own “home”. The accommodation itself was great; a free gym onsite, a great relaxing area, laundry facilities and it’s super close to local supermarkets and the university itself.

Such a good location for freshers coming to a city for the first time! Near to town and not far from uni. The accommodation is well kept and being surrounded by so many other students is such a great experience, there is always something going on and it's a great place to meet new friends.

Room was spacious and once I had all my own things up, it was very cosy. The location was close to the city centre, yet just outside which meant it was in a quiet area. I am happy to say I have enjoyed my time there.

Great location, perfect distance from both campuses - 15 min walk tops! 10 min walk from the shops! Good common room, laundry room on site, reception staff are v attentive and happy to help, same with security! Flats are groups of 5 usually, mixed or single gender depending on preference, great experience

Great location, directly between both campuses with a 10 minute walk to either. Pretty much directly at the foot of the moor shopping street that leads up to the main high street, and a walk away from the clubs/bars. Great sized rooms and kitchen with a good common room downstairs

The room was great with good heating and en suite however it is expensive and my loan did not cover the cost. The forge was not one of my 2 choices to live and I had applied for cheaper ones which is disappointing. It was near my campus and the ALDI but not too near to town which meant having to pay for taxis in stead of walking. The communal area and grass was lovely however I think there could have been some organised activities during freshers as I was in a block far away from the others so I did not meet that many people from other blocks.

Power cuts off regularly, the WiFi goes down a lot as well. The washing machines hardly work. Only good thing is the size of the bed.

The forge is a great city centre location. 10 minutes from universities. Close to all necessary amenities, and it has ALDI 30 seconds away. Perfect for socialising and flat parties, very easy to get to know your neighbours. My room was lovely, great sized bed for when friends stay, en suite which is perfect so you don’t need to share, modern and clean. The gym was great however for the price of the halls it would be good if it was included for free instead of a member price. Same with the washing, it is very expensive however the tracking system is excellent. Overall I loved my time at the forge and will definitely recommend it.

The accommodation is very social. We are also lucky enough to have a cleaner who literally does a really good job. They even clean the inside of the oven every two weeks. Maintenance are always on hand when need be and I’m constantly getting emails about work which is going on which means that they are trying to improve the facilities all the time. The only thing is that the internet can be a bit poor a few times a month but majority of the time it is really fast.

The forge is a ten minute walk from both collegiate and city campus. It has an Aldi across the road which is great for students

Great location- brilliant access to Aldi, Ecclesall Road, Clubs, The Moor etc. Friendly staff who occasionally arrange free food events in the common room! A great place to meet people, make friends and live your first year as a student. Rooms have everything you could need and any problems are fixed promptly. Rather expensive though..

The location is great, busy area with lots of shops and close to the oldest football ground in the world. The halls are poor and I had lots of maintenance issues from the start and they're still happening, the place is pretty dirty too and they don't do a great job cleaning. The electricity and Wi-Fi go off constantly and don't take your complaints professionally. The prices are not justified in the living experience

Shower water sprays out, my water goes cold if my flat mates shower first, soundproofing between rooms is awful, maintenance is okay, security is pitiful- so many attacks on students lately around this area and security don’t seem to care. I felt safe when I started living here but now I’m ready to go home.

Location is great for both campuses, directly in the middle of the two! Is a large accommodation so it’s easy to make friends with people in the same flat and surrounding flats! Also bound to find people on the same course as you living there! Great facilities, gym, common room, laundry room etc and great staff and security.

Good location but the living space could be better interms of furniture and decoration and equipment such as tv

The halls are safe and secure and offer many events and complimentary drinks and snacks. The parcel system is also very handy

The forge is in a great location, equal distance to both uni campuses. Sits next to London road so easy access to takeaways and restaurants.

I love the forge definitely the place if you want to party. Made so many good friends as its so social. The rooms are bigger than I expected and are of good quality. The maintenance however is a bit of a let down, there have been multiple times in the past few months when weve been without water due to several different issues. And the construction opposite is very loud from 8am. But i dont know one person who doesnt wish the were at the forge because its were everythings at. Aldi is also a big benefit as it is so close and cheap. Perfect for a student. Reception also makes it very easy to have things delivered as it will notify you on the accommodation app when something has arrived for you. Always very exciting

Really good atmosphere, always power outages hot water never really works, but your in the biggest halls so social life is peak, never need to worry about making friends as living with 5/6 people makes sure you make friends and are in the heart of the city

Easily the best 1st year acom in Sheffield. Had such a sick time here and I feel genuinely gutted for people who didn't spend their first year here. If you're a party person then The Forge is for you

Sick parties shame they get shut down a lot by security. Location is amazing and most people who live here are sound as fuck.

The Forge massively disappointed me. Looking at the pictures on the Unite Students and Sheffield Hallam University websites, The Forge as an accommodation looks absolutely beautiful. It looked massive with a large social area and the rooms looked to be in too condition. Upon arrival I found that the common room for Forge was tiny; and the rooms and buildings look nothing like the pictures. If it weren’t for me being under a free accommodation scholarship I would say that The Forge is falsely advertised, not worth the money that has to be paid and that there are nice accommodations in the city for far less money. I was highly disappointed
