The facilities in comparison to other halls are lacking, not bad but not to the same standards of halls such as Nightingale. The food could be temperamental at times which is annoying. However, despite the reputation it has amongst other Uni of students, Rutland is one of the friendliest and most social halls. Everyone knows everyone which you cant say about a lot of the halls.

Great location (next to the gym), not as aesthetically appealing from the outside but this wasn't a problem for me. Room was a good temperature and hall staff were all friendly. JCR not very modern and I personally did not get very good signal.

When googling Rutland before starting uni, it brought up a lot of negative results about the hall being awful and that made me really worried about living there. However there was nothng negative to say about life there! It is quite a small hall compratively, but that just means that everyone knows everyone - and there is a real patriotism about being in Rutland! The rooms are really decent, I had an ensuite and it was great! Only negative is that the food was very temperamental - but the meal card makes up for this! Overall I had an amazing experience at Rutland and would tell any fresher not to believe the negative attitudes towards it!

Cute hall, good location. Only downfall is that literally everyone that isn’t in Rutland hates it. Also the toilets always get blocked. Jcr is trash.

The location was brilliant, it was so close to the sports hall and the other main halls on campus. It's about a 10 minute walk from everywhere, although the med school took about 15 minutes to get to. There was a bus to take you into town about 3 minutes walk away. It was catered and the food was alright most of the time, with an odd night, the food not being that appealing. Rutland was a very social hall, all the blocks mixed together well and rather than having individual flats it was large corridors with communal kitchens which was really sociable. My room was lovely, I was dreading it being dark, but it was light and airy. The wet room worked well and we had a cleaner come every 2 weeks to clean our rooms which was a luxury. There was plenty of storage space and the room was done to a high standard.

Not the best facilities but made up for by the people and experience. You will have a great time here.

Alright but falling apart. A decent hall on campus with really nice people, but too much control and not enough freedom. I had A fun social experience I got lucky with my corridor. Overly strict on food etc e.g. refusing to substitute rice for pasta when these are two options etc

People are mean, why did everybody hate Rutland? All I wanted was an ensuite and we got called slutland!

Great staff and location on campus. The Hall was a great size like living get in a small community so everyone knew each other. The food was always touch and go though it was either really good or bad but having spar on campus it was always easy to get food if need be.

I enjoy being in catered halls purely for the social side of things, we eat together, party together etc. and if you’re not friends with people on your corridor there’s always other corridors to go to
