I am in the nicer, refurbished area of castle Leazes, and, despite it being very small and tiny, I really enjoy living there's it is very social and a nice little student hub to be around others.

Amazing social atmosphere, known as the best halls in Newcastle and perhaps the country. Friendly staff who are always willing to help. Food is average but the breakfast is a life saver. Some rooms are nicer than others so that is luck of the draw. Newly refurbished blocks are very comfortable. Location is ideal, lectures are less than a 15 minute walk away and the train station is about 20 minutes. Great view of St James' Park in the mornings.

The location is ideal, about 15 mins from campus. Most students choose this halls as it is the most sociable. However, I think that a lot of the rooms and bathrooms are underdeveloped and in need of a refurbishment.

Leases is great due to how sociable it is. The catered accommodation has questionable facilities in terms of communal areas (no living room and a v small kitchen between about 15). The non-catered living areas are more modern (mostly come with en suite). The food isn’t great but meal times were a really social time so I’d say it was worth it. If you’re fussy/health conscious it may be a different story.

Location was really ideal at only a ten minute walk to uni and means going out is much less attractive to uber. Social experience fantastic all my friends and wider group of friends from there. The food is exceptionally poor with there being little variation and choice, especially in the morning.

castle leazes halls were very social, walking down the corridors you'd definitely walk past at least one person you know. The canteen if you were catered was also a very social place to meet up with people and have dinner. The breakfast and dinner were decent with big portions and lots of selection. obviously not the best food youd ever eat but still very decent. In sumer there were lollys and ice creams which were a nice touch. the rooms were okay, on the small side if you were wash basin room but nothing ridiculous. The en suite rooms were far nicer but this showed in the higher prices. Toilets and showers were shared between around 19 people which is a bit grim but i didnt find any problem with this. i never had to really wait to use the facilities. There are lots of social spaces such as the bar and the snooker room. a bonus was having the computer cluster which meant work could be done from the halls rather than having to leave and go to a library or study area elsewhere, especially useful that there were printers aswell.

Perfect location, only a 10min walk to the uni and 15 into town. Has good facilities and offers catered and self-catered options, also has a tv room, games hall and computer cluster in the main building. The rooms are decent size for what I imagined when choosing the cheapest accomodation with plenty of storage and space enough, this is from a self-catered, washbasin room. The actual facilities in our flat are awful though with only 2 small half size fridges between 10 of us, and the same with freezers. The bathrooms have been done up and there seems to be no issues sharing a shower. Love the company here though, definately the friendliest halls to live in.

If you're looking for a lively environment, an ideal on campus location and the convenience of catered food, Castle Leazes is definitely the accommodation for you! It's grim appearance doesn't do it justice as it's honestly not that bad. The food isn't great but the buzzing atmosphere more than makes up for it.

Really sociable halls! The option to have catered meals was great for first year as means you don't have to worry about cooking and going to meals gives you even more chance to be sociable - plus the food is good and there's always lots of choice. The facilities are good - there's a laundry room, computer room, bar and the wifi reaches all the rooms. The halls are also great location - Not too far from uni or town. The ensuite rooms are great and even with catered meals theres a nice kitchen and social area in the flat - lots of places to hang out and meet new people!

5 stars for location, very close to the town centre which is so useful. 1 star for the rooms (truly horrible, haven't changed since my mum and dad(!!!!) lived there however many years ago). 2 stars for the facilities, the bar is okay if you're a boy that likes football and if you like ping pong. 5 stars for social experience, you make such good friends and bond over the grossness.

Lucky enough to live with some fab people but can see why people would hate it, especially in the large blocks, could make you feel really isolated. Also attracts some of the worst type of people ever, with no regard for others or members of staff, never been so shocked certain behaviours. My room was nicer than most but the flat had no social space apart from a kitchen with 3 chairs - there were 10 of us living there. The showers and toilets were also fine and the cleaners were nice enough, personal experience was good but can completely understand the awful reputation of this halls, it really does have a "type".

Castle Leazes is very socialable and there's always people around. However it can get very loud at night and the walls are paper thin. The rooms aren't too nice inside but are relatively spacious which is good. The kitchen area is tiny however and a communal area for each floor is needed. The facilities are clean but old. The location is perfect.

Great experience in castle leazes, although the bedrooms aren't 5 star, the social aspect couldn't be much better which is what you need in first year. I like the set up of the halls, the 17 other girls on my floor are all really close-by so you're all well connected. If you opt for catered, as a vegetarian I've enjoyed the food. The location is good too, close to the university and I can imagine being on leazes park will be really nice in the summer. In general this accomodation is a great for a smooth transition from school as it maintains that sense of community where some other accomodation falters.

Has a good social life and I like the fact it is a halls. However the food is not tasty. Meat free Monday is really quite gross and means people make their own meals on Monday evening. Also breakfast should go on till longer for late risers. Lacks a common room which makes it awkward to socialise.

The halls are very sociable, however the groups can be very clique-y, and it can be quite stressful constantly hearing people outside. The catered side is a plus and the food isn't too bad - breakfasts were my favourite.

There isn't really that much to complain about regarding my accommodation. It's in a prime location, only a 10-or-so minute walk from the main campus, and 15 into town; there is a handy corner shop only about five minutes away for those last minute beer buys or an emergency loaf of bread; it is reasonably easy to get to, and all of the taxi drivers I've had so far can find it with ease - perfect for when you've downed one too many drinks and need to get back quick! I'm in a catered style accommodation, and the food on offer is more than reasonable. There is plenty of choice for breakfasts and evening meals, including more than one vegetarian option, a salad bar and plenty for desert. The style of meals are typically very varied so more often than not you can find something to quench your cravings, saving you tons on ordering in. I'm also in a shared bathroom type situation, which has been one of the very few downfalls of this accommodation. The showers are decent, I can't lie, but the toilets resemble those of an old petrol station restroom, with only one sink in the corner to cater to three loos. Also, the toilet paper has not been refilled since I arrived (it's currently November) which left my flatmates and I having to buy some for ourselves. But there has not yet been a technical problem with them. My room is very nicely sized, giving me a lot of floor and work space so I don't feel cramped or trapped which is most definitely a perk. And the accommodation on a whole offers a wide range of facilities, including a T.V room, snooker rooms, a launderettes and its very own bar, not to mention several social and event spaces, some of which have grand pianos in them. Overall, Castle Leazes accommodation is really good for new students as it's huge size gives you a sense of community amongst its residents. I feel safe and kind of at home here, so I do recommend it to anyone interested (just maybe try and opt for an ensuite).

Great location near university and town. Very social and the facilities are basic but this is perfect for a first year student when you're sharing with so many.

Great social experience but not much social space in the halls themeselves. Amazing location, so close to the city centre and St James' Park. Cheaper option. Catered accomodation.

A very social hall to be in with the opportunity to be either catered or self catered. The room I had was very small (single bed, desk, sink) on a 12 person floor which was often very noisy. On site there was a laundrette and a little shop to get the basics.

Location was perfect, most of my lectures were within a 25 minute walk. The biggest let down was the food which was awful and they were very strict on portion control. Social areas were lacking, the only real social area was the bar.

I was in aln house which we decided was the worst block facilities wise, the kitchen is so small and hot and you have to share it with 12 other people. The dining room is like a soft play area but ok for what you pay. I loved my room, I had a wash basin room and loved it. My block was very social and we all got on really well. Castle leazes is known as the social halls and it is! So glad I chose to live there in my first year.

Good social life if you only like nights out but awful everything else. Toilets were scummy and mould on the walls. The walls were paper thin so you could hear people screaming constantly.

Very antisocial, encourages smoking and awful food with tiny portions. Felt very isolated. Very close to dental school but no shop in the halls.
