Such good value for money. On side gym/laundrette, maintenance team always efficient. Always clean facilities and lovely reception staff.

Location is not the best, a 15 minute drive out of town. Bedrooms are of a good size all with its own bathroom. On site bar with a cinema room and dance floor, puts on events through freshers week and the year. Regular bus schedule to take students to and from uni, stops off just outside Morrison’s on the weekend so people can do their food shop. Has a few big fields surrounding it as well as a shop that sells items like milk and jam etc. Cash machine in the reception area as well as set taxi prices from trips into town. Met lots of new people and made some really good friends.

The accommodation is good for the price you're paying. It is really far from the university but there are bus that run pretty regularly.

Bit of a manky place tbh and in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand you’ll meet some cracking people on the night bus to town. Good for your first year.

The location was abit of an issue when it was cold as the buses struggled to get to university and back. I had a few issues with the room including the lights always breaking, the radiator breaking and mouldy throughout the room. However I met loads of great people while I've been here and I'm glad I stayed here for my first year.

Very good! Great for student, little party village! There is a shop and a bar and he place is steeped in history! Close to castle hill and very convienient with a bus!

First month my block had no hot water but after that it was fine. The water tasted awful. It was 4-5 miles away from the campus and in the middle of nowhere so you had to get a bus into town and that took ages in rush hour. The only shop there was limited and over priced. The rooms were small and no very nice looking. The security were good. Receptionists were helpful. Problems were sorted out quickly. The people there were quality. The venue there served cheap pints but the food was disgusting.

Location is in the middle of nowhere, the bus is convenient it comes every 20 mins, however on the weekend the busses are hourly, and the bus got stuck in traffic multiple times which was inconvinient. Very mouldy, designed for first years, very loud, fire alarms went off all the time (set off by students). The drains weren’t great, the flats would smell and people in my flat had problems with the water for their showers.

For first year its a good place to start but second year i wouldn't recommend as its really far and even throught the bus is every 30min its still a lot of time wasted

It's a verylengthy distance between the university and the halls. It is a two hour walk meaning you are dependent on the bus and taxis. The bus sometimes do not turn up and come late frequently. The accommodation is okay however there are late problems, from having no hot water to having no water at all. There is no signal in rooms and the Wi-Fi is not 100% certain

The WiFi connection is terrible, slow and doesn't work a lot of the time. There is no phone signal unless you walk about 5 minutes away from your flat. the chairs that are provided at the desks are very uncomfortable and not suitable for using for medium or long periods of time while you're revising. The bus system is very bad, there aren't enough busses on a morning and they are usually late by about 5 minutes to half an hour, they charge you to use them after a certain time in the afternoon even though we have already paid to use them at the start of the year, the journey takes forever and is a waste of time, there aren't enough frequent busses running throughout the rest of the day, during the weekend they are every hour which really restricts what you can do, there should be an earlier one than the 7:30 one on a morning, they don't stop at Morrisons through the week, the term time busses are terrible because they are every hour and stop at 6:30pm which is very inconvenient for every student wanting to have an evening out during the holidays. The food and drinks at the cost cutter are way too expensive and overpriced for food and drinks that aren't usually good quality. The venue closes quite early on an evening. Parties at the venue and events are usually scheduled to be in the middle of the week when we are busy with uni work and have uni the next day. The computers in the study room and terrible and don't have word. They have no decent games at the venue. The PS4 and Xbox's don't have online so you can't play on online games and they only have a very small amount of storage. The carvery served at the venue was very expensive for cheap crappy bits of meat, cheap frozen in a bag tasteless veg. The other food that's served taste's good but it's too expensive and unaffordable for student's. They charge you to use the printer in the venue when it should be free seeing as how we are charged a huge amount to stay here. People smoke outside the flat and the windows are crap so you can smell it in your room and we don't think security bother to do anything about it because it doesn't stop. Taxis to and from storthes are very expensive and the busses don't run late at night. The drinks are very overpriced at the venue. No pets are allowed it would have been nice to have a hamster at least. The washing machines and dryers are very overpriced and most of the dryers don't work, some of the washing machines don't work properly and the wash house is miles away from the flat. the noise from other students is very annoying why they put music students with the people who wanted a quiet block I don't know because the last thing we want is some annoying clarinet tooting at us all day or any other type of instruments. There isn't enough space in the kitchen for food for 8 people or for all of our kitchen utensils. The seats in the kitchen are uncomfortable. The carpets in the rooms and hallways stink and are very old so they have a lot of muck walked into them. The shower sometimes stays boiling hot or freezing cold. The shower curtain clings to you because of the lack of space. The worktops in the kitchen and the bathroom cupboard are all swollen from years of water damage. Most of the time there isn't much to do here. No close by shops. Takeaways are expensive for delivery because of how far away storthes is. Not enough parking that's close to the flat. Never any films on at the cinema. you have to pay to play pool.

Some of the blocks outdated, but slowly getting renovated. They've updated the social area since I stayed there and it looks better. Reasonably priced.

The social side of living there is great but the halls are really out of the way and getting places is a struggle sometimes.

I spent my first year at university living at Storthes Hall. I would recommend this accommodation because of the community spirit around the location and I made so many friends that I am still in contact with now in my second year. I would however not recommend this accommodation from the environment, it is so far from uni and it can be also annoying to get in in time for your lectures and there are rats and mould problems throughout the accommodation. For the price you pay it is good accommodation.

Too far away, life is dictated by the buses there, the one bar is overpriced and has no money put into it. The rooms are mouldy, wouldn’t stay again

I stayed at Storthes hall in 2015-16 and honestly, it was awful. Other than the people I met there, the experience was disappointing at the time. It's just positioned too far away from uni and took a huge chunk out of my day on the bus, which we had to pay for after certain hours. The water supply kept messing up and we had to drink bottled water and go for days without showering. It's built up a reputation amongst students at uni and it's not a good one. Other than the people there and maybe the venue, Storthes has nothing going for it, it's a shame it was promoted so much by the uni itself. It was handy having the costcutter nearby though.

The room size and quality is very good for the price you pay. All rooms are en-suite so very good value. There is plenty of social events at The Venue and the gym is good. It is located 15-20 minutes away from the university but it’s such a lovely place.

The location and surrounding areas are absolutely stunning as it is on the outskirts of Huddersfield tucked away so quite peaceful for a walk or some quiet. The actual halls themselves are quite run down and there are a lot of problems with plumbing and bugs as it's near a water site, the shop is quite expensive on site also. Overall for a first university experience I wouldn't choose it.

The water supply is terrible but then when you get water it's black and dirty. But it is brilliant for social life I've made friends for life

Anonymous

The water supply is horrid and when you get water it's dirty which is horrid. But it is brilliant for making new friends and having fun in the halls because you can't make a mess because it's a mess so you can't tell

The halls in general were ok, but the maintenance was poor and I and most of the other people in my flat had bad damp in the bathrooms. The kitchen was too small and had no comfy area so bad for socialising, only had uncomfortable dining table cheap chairs to sit on and the kitchen was old fashioned and badly decorated. The bedrooms were also old fashioned and resembled the insides of a solitary confinement unit within prisons. The student union was always cold and empty and has since been upgraded but I have not been back, only redeeming factor was the WiFi but lots of people in different flats said there WiFi never worked so I was lucky.

It’s alright but dead not very convenient could be better with the help and facilities quite unreliable

Anonymous

Better accomodation available for similar cost, rooms are tatty - definitely due a revamp, most people have problems with silverfish and many bottom floor flats have had rats

Anonymous

Rooms are pretty basic and could use an upgrade as they're starting to look a bit tatty. Staff are great and super friendly and the onsite facilities such as the gym and venue are brilliant additions.
