Turing Flats

Turing is situated just outside the centre of campus and therefore getting around campus to lectures etc. Is less than 10minutes walk! Turing is the most modern of halls of residence at Kent with a large kitchen area, sofas, large window with a pleasant view and en-suites. The rooms let in a lot of light. The large kitchen made socialising with other Flat mates easy with still enough space for all to cook. My room had a decent size double bed, large desk area with plenty of storage space.

I was a bit weary about my choice of first year accommodation at University because I wanted to make sure I chose the option that best fit my budget but emphasised comfort. I put Turing flats as my first choice. Turing is the most expensive self catered accommodation and I have not been disappointed so far with the overall quality of the accommodation and believe the rent amount is justified given that it is extremely modern and the rooms suit all my needs. Turing also offers a nearby study hub which is convenient and an on campus takeaway with a large social area and activities such as Table Tennis and Snooker which provide a good break from work or an easy alternative to cooking for myself. I have however been disappointed with a persisting security problem which is that the door to my building and flat don't lock, leaving open access to anyone. I am aware that this issue has been tried to be resolved countless times but I am still worried that my belongings in the kitchen are vulnerable to theft seeing as the kitchen door doesn't lock. My general impression is that Turing is a decent and fun first year accommodation option.

It is in a great location as it's very central, so it only takes a few minutes to walk to the shops on campus, the library and to the nightclub. It's very modern inside, looking much like a hotel room. The room itself is well laid out, providing a lot of storage and room for a double bed. I'm very glad I had this accommodation for my first year at uni.

I lived in one of the Turing En suite flats for my first year of university and was overall very satisfied. The room itself was cozy and modern, the bathrooms were good and cleaned every 2 weeks. The kitchen is big and there's enough room for everyone to be seated and everyone gathered around for dinner and pre drinks which allowed everyone to be good friends.

The Turing Flats were definitely some of the nicest accommodation at the university. The rooms were spacious and the buildings were well maintained, the main downside was the cost at around £6,500 for the year. Also, the flats got incredibly hot in the summer, the huge windows were great, however let a lot of heat in which wasn't a problem in itself, the main issue was that all of the radiators seemed to be left on throughout the summer, despite tenants asking for them to be turned off.

Great location, close to all the main amenities on campus. Rooms are spacious and light. Kitchens are very large but the storage spaces and fridges aren't as large as they could be.

Turing is seen as the nicest accommodation because it’s the newest but thy isn’t the case. It gets very loud outside sometimes. Campus security is always around which is good for safety but bad for socialising. The beds are uncomfortable and the rooms are really small. This is however the only accommodation with an actual shower rather than a wet room which is really nice. However you pay the same amount for a flat in Tyler b or c or in park wood which have much nicer and larger rooms. The internet is so slow in Turing too!

Excellent flat, great sized rooms, new and modern. Good location as is a short walk from the central campus, en suite bathrooms which were very modern, the social experience is what let’s it down. Turing is no where near as social as places like Keynes and Eliot. People tend to stay in their rooms and in the houses which were opposite my flats, there was a lot of drug use.

I was very lucky to have my own ensuite, which was spacious, built to very high quality and regularly cleaned by on-campus cleaners. The kitchen was enormous, with two large fridge freezers and two cookers between 8.

The rooms are fairly spacious and light which is really great and the en-suite bathrooms have actual showers which is a bonus. The kitchen is equally as light and spacious, however the size depends on the flat and some are significantly smaller than others. It is fairly quiet every night and campus security is a great addition to make you feel safe. Conversely, there are a lot of rooms and sometimes you feel like you're at boarding school. The price is also ridiculous, perhaps not worth the thousands they're asking for. The view and location is great and Canterbury city is visable from the kitchen window which is nice when cooking. The communal kitchen/living area is also ideal for flat parties, predrinks and social gatherings, or just to hang out in during the day.

The flats are very spacious and aesthetically pleasing. The beds are a decent size and the desks and cupboards offer a reasonable amount of storage space. The kitchens are huge and are a nice social space although the bins could be larger as we are constantly having to empty them and even though there is a lot of space it can sometimes feel a bit barren. Fridge space can also be an issue but that does depend on how much your flatmates eat. My main issues are with the placement of my building, we are right next to a generator and whenever I open my window I hear a high pitched buzzing sound which is very irritating. Turing also isn't very central. The mattresses also aren't the correct size for the bed, I find it constantly sliding out of position which has given me some back issues in the night. Housekeeping don't always regularly show up either, they didn't tidy my bathroom in nearly 2 months. The internet is amazing though, its super quick, but it is annoying that you can only connect game consoles to the internet via ethernet cable. Overall, its good, however my girlfriend is in Tyler Court and I personally think the accommodation there is much nicer, even though its cheaper.

Overall, my experience in Turing has been great. I got very lucky with the roomates that I got as we all get along very well. The kitchen is very spacious with lots of seating areas (which are not very comfy). The size of the rooms is good and beds are decently comfortable. The only complaints I would have is that the cleaners don’t clean the bathroom and kitchens throughly, like they stopped changing the mop heads so it’s gross now and sometimes skip rooms when it comes to cleaning the toilet. Also, we have had a few faulty things but were quickly sorted out.

This was close to all my lectures and seminar so it was useful as I didn’t really need a bus pass. But because it was new, people were having trouble finding its location for delivery. But they should have fixed that by now. I loved my room. I had an ensuite with a double bed. Everything was clean. I hardly left my room. The kitchen was big which was useful for hosting events and cooking in general. The university’s Wi-fi was also very useful

Amazing modern rooms with brilliant facilities. However very unsocial flat, everybody eats in their bedroom and nobody chats which makes it a lonely place at time.

Location is perfect, close enough to everything that you wont have to walk too far. Rooms are lovely, I had a double bed and it was just the right size- all nice and clean feel very modern and the showers in the ensuite are amazing! Kitchen is a really good size and is a really nice social area, always clean as cleaners come once a week. Its a very social halls, and there is always something going on.. quite loud at times though so if youre looking for a quiet halls turing is probably not for you

The rooms in Turing College are lovely, with decent sized beds, desks and bathrooms. Whilst my neighbours can be relatively noisy, they are fine for the most part. The majority of the people that I live with aren't usually the sort of people that I would associate with and therefore I find it difficult to get along with them.

The ensuites are brilliant, the shower is efficient and easy to use and the toilet is comfortable. The beds are very soft and comfy, as well as warm. The rooms are bright and spacious
