Very cultured. Good food places and shopping options. Value for money is pretty good and transport links make it well accessible. Birmingham has some very good schooling and universities to offer. However, public transport should be made cheaper to relieve congestion on the roads. Also there are some areas which are quite deprived and so more money should be invested in these areas to improve the quality of life.

Great place with lots to do but not much sense of a community within the universities - I’ve known places like Nottingham Trent to have more socials whereas with Birmingham you mostly have to plan your own nights out. Lots of places for shopping and having fun though

Birmingham is a good city for students as it has a quite big range of activities out and good opportunities for part-time student jobs as well. Not too busy and not too boring.

You can do a lot of leisure activities and shopping in Birmingham. Not forgetting clubs and bars for a great night life experience. The bullring is the main attraction, there's an indoor shopping centre situated in the bullring where there's your favourite brand shops such as BOSS or RIVER ISLAND and many more. The cinemas is also situated near the bull ring. There's also food places like PIZZA HUT or NANDOS and many more. Not forgetting a massive library to get your studies in. Night life is also exciting as there are many different attractions to chose from from a range of prices

From my experience I don't really feel that Birmingham has much compared to other cities and towns. I think that there needs to be some dramatic changes to the transport as there are not enough buses and trains. I also feel that there needs to be more places to eat out because the majority of the places are overpriced and definitely not worth the money when it comes down to the actual taste of the food. I also don't think there are big ranges of entertainment compared to places like London and Manchester.

Birmingham is an amazing city full of students from all over the world. There are a variety of churches to go that suit any denomination as well as multiple small groups that will assist you during your time in university. Bullring is huge and has pretty much every store you need, but a personal favourite is Grand Central with a variety of food to choose from! Travel - buses and trains within Birmingham are cheap and good value for money - ubers are frequent, however, don't make them a habit or else the money builds up! If living in the city centre everywhere is pretty much walkable!

A night is so expensive, buying drink is just a lot of money. Even, food is expensive its hard to spend that amount of money when your a student.

It's a big beautiful city. One has to appreciate the fact that it went from a heavily industrial city to a touristy one, with dozens of places to eat, places to shop and places to go out.

I personally think Birmingham is a good place to benefit from the nights out as there is various clubs in Birmingham to visit which are all different. Eating out in Birmingham is also relatively priced well and the food is up to a good standard depending on which food places you go to. I think entertainment only really evolves around the cinemas besides the clubs in Birmingham, as they give the most entertainment to people. I think there should be more places which have student discounts that are more popular and known, so more students will attend the places as they can afford it. The transport is also good, however when traveling to college/university in the mornings it is very very busy as other people who don't attend college/uni are also traveling at the same time. To avoid the busyness on these early mornings, having more than one bus running at the same times would be a great idea, so everyone doesn't have to crowd onto one bus.

The shopping is good but isn't the best. The food is great as there is loads of different style resteraunt for a night out and family.

The Birmingham City Centre is a great place to be on a night out. Especially the canals at Brindley Place with fancy pubs and great restaurants. The Bullring is quite famous for its architecture and the shops inside the mall are diverse and great for shopping sprees. However, once you leave the city centre, which is quite small to begin with, the suburbs look shady, the roads are bad and the littering is horrific. There is garbage everywhere and everywhere looks the same. So, besides the city centre, there's not much to see I'm afraid, if you don't take our big parks into consideration.

Big, lively city, a little run down and dirty in a few areas. Lots of places to eat on a night out whatever food you like or if you want to go to somewhere independent or a chain. Many supermarkets around for students with various pricepoints and many are surrounding student areas so are very close. There is many places to do large amounts of shopping: Bullring, merryhill etc. And is also a fairly cheap place to live.

Relatively good price, need to fix up parks and roads more and provide more recycling bins. Need to also provide easier access for disabled people

Broad Street is probably the best place to go for a late night drink in Birmingham. Broad Street is almost nothing but bars and clubs it can be very 'lively'. Broad Street is sick for Stag and Hen nights. Most people are 18-25. Shopping is the best in Birmingham, with Selfridges&Co you can get all the luxury clothes and makeup etc and the bullring has loads of shops like H&M, primark, urban outfitters. There's also loads of places you can go for food. Some can be quite expensive though like fumo (but very nice).

Birmingham has a beautiful city centre surrounded by modern and also aged buildings . It has a wide range of shops for peoples budgets and spending limits and it's also host to many many types of restaurants and places to eat.

The nights out are a bit dead sometimes, like not many different types of music. Shopping is pretty good, Bullring is huge. It’s just pretty dangerous sometimes and doesn’t feel particularly safe. Know a lot of people that have had car windows smashed and stuff.

Birmingham is a large and vibrant city, there is something for everyone. For the shoppers, there are bullring, the fort or even an outlet haven close to the Birmingham airport. There are plenty of pubs, clubs and bars that are affordable and fun with different themes events. For the chocolate lovers, the Cadbury factory is a 15 min train away. There are wildlife parks, farms and parks around for the nature or animal lovers. Not forgetting all the type of cruisines around, including a Chinatown of their own.

My uni is right by the city centre so super convenient but also means quite a bit of traffic during the day. And then goes really quiet after about 6 and there’s not much to do after that. Has quite a few good places to shop and for entertainment

My university isn't too far from my house and it's easy to get to aswell. My teachers are really helpful.

Hailing from London, it has helped me being in another big city like Birmingham. The transport is good and affordable here making it easy to get to wherever I want to be. There are loads of places around me to do food shopping and there's a 24 hour Tesco down the road if I need to pick up anything essential at any time of the day. The UOB campus is lovely with many modern buildings as well as some nice older ones. The gym and other sports facilities are also nearby.

Personally, it’s definitely nowhere near as good as London or some other cities. Of course you have the bull ring, star city broad street etc. But after a while, these places get tiring, transport needs improvement and there’s building works everywhere. That being said, it’s not awful and you can/will have fun and there’s some hidden treasures and even just walking around exploring is decent. It’s not mega expensive either.

Good place to study, comfortable environment and some nice people. Not everyone enjoys it the same but it depends how devoted you are as to how much you can really enjoy the small amount of time you get. Not everything is exciting, yes it’s boring at times. But in the end it’s worth it

Birmingham is a funny place - it seems strangled by the problem of the city not truly knowing what it wants for it’s identity. In terms of nights out for young people, the city centre is staggeringly bare/mundane and it doesn’t feel like the bustling centre you would expect for such a big place. Especially given the recent closure of one of its biggest nightlife venues - the Rainbow - I find Birmingham I very hit and miss place for going out. This is maybe saved by outer areas such as Kings Heath and Mosley, but is thwarted by the less than desirable transport system. The city is currently going over major redevelopments and we are feeling the awkward effects of this. Some of my favourite music venues have been knocked down as a result, and what remains is struggling through what seems to be a feeling of disconnect throughout the entire fabric of the city community. Places which were once bustling music venues now struggle to get any decent music in at all. Check out Glasgow, London, Manchester. You’d be better off there.

The campus area (UoB) is green and beautiful, but to be honest the city itself is not particularly pretty or interesting. Not much to do, city center is quite grey and always crowded, though there is a huge, fancy shopping centre. Decent amount of restaurants and pubs and cinemas too. Many clubs but always full of undergrads, so if you are a postgrad who's bothered by that it is quite hard to find a place, not like you'll have much time for going out anyway :D Trains are fine, buses are often terrible with keeping the schedule. Of course this is all personal so don't be discouraged, all in all a fine place for uni years!
