HSBC Bank Accounts Reviews

The overdraft amount was perfect and the credit cases that came with it was perfect for emergencies and building a credit score. The app was easy to use and the fact it changes to a graduate account post university is a nice touch.

I opened the account here as the perks for students were very good when I was looking. I had received a £60 amazon voucher and 1 year amazon prime membership but there was an option for a railcard (I think). I also had the option of getting a credit card which has been very useful as a student buying things online, you can never be too careful. Any transactions that I have not done using the credit card would be refunded, even if I do not receive the product would be refunded which I have been greatful to. A peice of mind when online shopping. The banking app has been improved where you're able to block your bank cards, very good especially if you lose it at night. No need to worry someone would be able to use it. Also very easy to move money with the recent update. Since then whenever I hear someone mention they are looking for a bank provider as a student, I recommend HSBC.

The extra perks of the student account (the £80 amazon voucher, one year free amazon prime) is what initially attracted me to HSBC and I think I made the right decision in choosing HSBC. Customer service has always been friendly and helpful and the mobile banking app is useful as there isn't a HSBC branch near my uni.
Anonymous
HSBC has given average advice and help, however there seems to be frequent issues with their apps and they often log you out creating issues trying to log back in. I've been instore which ended up to be completely useless.
Anonymous
Easy to set up and have found it very effective in successfully organising my finances and spending wisely. Customer service is good and a great mobile banking app which is straight forward and very easy to use.
Anonymous
Good overall, has a student exclusives site and the abitlity to extend overdraft each year, however this facility on mobile backing has not worked for me multiple times.
Anonymous
The overdraft facility is useful and the mobile banking app is exceptionally easy to use. It also has some very good sign up incentives. A useful feature is the quick balance feature on the mobile banking app as it allows me to check how much money I have on a night out.
Anonymous
Overall, a good bank. However, the mobile banking app is very annoying to log on every time. Customer service seems to be good as they were able to solve most of the issues I had throughout the years.
Anonymous
Good over all and have a student exclusives section but I had attempted to extend my overdraft using the area online and it repeatedly told me that I couldn't even though I'm not in my first year.
Anonymous
The £1000 overdraft offer and £500 student credit card that HSBC offer as part of their student bank account deal really helped tide me over whenever my student loan was running low (admittedly very often). As well as this they also add in a free £70 amazon voucher for signing up with them which was useful for buying any extra bits such as textbooks or stationery and another £20 one for signing up for the credit card.

Overdraft is a good size and online banking is easy to manage, which helps to keep track of spending.
Anonymous
I have never had a problem with HSBC. The HSBC online banking is super easy to use and great for reviewing savings and purchases. Having a savings account along side a student one allows me to move money easily between the two and is great when budgeting .

HSBC has been my bank account for many years and I changed to a student account after joining university. Whilst a lot of elements are very easy and beneficial, like the mobile app is great with its new cheque depositing system, the overdraft offer is good and staff are always wonderful in branches, there are a few elements that have made me question whether or not to stay with HSBC. Firstly in order to pay money or cheques into a branch I find it all very time consuming as You have to fill out slips and I'm never fully sure whether I'm doing it right. If you could just hand your money into the branch worker Who would put it into your account it would be so simple. Secondly, the im pretty sure there is like 0% interest rate which is kind of annoying when other branches, like Santander, offer students an interest rate of up to 3%. Also Santander offer students railcards and other incentives. This is the main reason I have questioned whether or not to stay with HSBC as there seems to me no benefits or incentives and I feel like this could massively improve the amount of people choosing this bank.

i have had no complaints lovely customer service. i hsbe forgot my online banking password several times to which they were very patient and helpful
Anonymous
The overdraft is helpful and if you're already with the bank, which I was, they literally switch your current account to a student account with no fuss or hassle

I really enjoy banking with HSBC and I really do think that they care about the fact that I am a student. When I signed up I instantly received a £60 amazon voucher which was fab! The whole process was incredibly pain free and the overdraft was up and running in moments. I really like the fact that you can make changes at any time like increasw your overdraft in the app, or apply for a student credit card which is a really nice thing to have for building credit score. The massive boomf they sent in the post to do with the bank account and being a student was actually pretty helpful. Tbh I'd never bank with anyone else other than HSBC!

Great customer service, and quality of the mobile banking app.
Anonymous
Good customer service, and convenient mobile app. Would be better if customer services are available 24/7
Rebecca Cargill
Really good service and they always keep you well informed. Only negative was that the joining perk was difficult to obtain.

The Service offered by HSBC is amazing. You can pop in branch and they will guide you on how to apply and set up the account. You are sent a guidance pack all about the acount and what it offers. They will also help you set up online and mobile banking apps. The is simple to use and you can make payments and move money in minutes. The overdaft is £1000, but within the guidance pack it tells you of other options for the overdraft. When you sign up you get a amazon voucher and a years free amazon prime student. You also can sign up to the HSBC Student Exclusive; which has offers, discounts and bonuses.

Since signing up with HSBC I have been very impressed. Firstly the £60 amazon voucher comes in very helpful when you are a student, but aside from this I have had no problems at all. Creating the account was very easy and simple which was very helpful as I had never opened a bank account before. The main thing I like is the HSBC app. Signing in is so easy as you can do it with just your finger print. Transferring money is so simple and you don't need access to a laptop it can all be done through the app which is something I find particularly helpful. I have a £1000 overdraft which I try not to use but negotiating rent and student loans would be impossible without it! I can't comment on the customer service side of the bank because I have never had any issues that need resolving. Overall I would definitely recommend HSBC.
Anonymous
I think my HSBC account is great - as it offers a lot of savings account and great overdraft facilities.
Anonymous
HSBC have many perks if you create a student account with them. One of them is the £80 Amazon voucher you receive, this could be used for your stationary (which is what I took advantage of). In addition to this you get free prime membership for a year! This has to be a dream come true especially if you are on a constant hype of ordering products. I definetly still take advantage of this particular perk till this day!
Anonymous
This is the best bank for students, with a generous overdraft and plenty of information provided to help tailor banking to individual needs. Would recommend to all students!
Anonymous
Excellent customer service, they always respond very quickly. it only took 2 days for them to send me my new card. Online banking and mobile app is very easy to use and feels very secure. Would recommend this bank to anyone. The branch staff are always approachable. Only thing I would say that is a negative, is that they don't really have many branches in Manchester most of them have been shut down :(, and also their aren't many rewards like other banks have.
Anonymous
Offered brilliant incentives such as a £80 amazon voucher and 6 months of amazon prime for free which is obviously very well suited to students. However, I personally feel setting up their online banking is long-winded and time-consuming and the actual layout of it is not as good as other banks' online banking websites.
Anonymous
Comes with good perks, especially Amazon voucher, but the customer service and online banking is poor.
Anonymous
The amazon gift card was a huge perk as I already have a rail card and did not find any better benefits from banks besides this amazon prime or rail card. Free prime has bought many perks such as free audible for three months and exclusive offers. Additionally, the offer of a credit card has been useful as I have been able to build a credit score as a student and have also got another gift voucher which makes it worth while.
Anonymous
Great support and really helpful when ever I go in or call. I had a problem once with accessing the student exclusives and they sorted really well. I would definitely recommend them to any new student.
Anonymous
Generally, I really like this account. I think that it was really easy to set up and the staff were very helpful in doing this as I had to switch accounts and not just open one. The overdraft seemed large enough for my first year, and the app also seems quite good. I e used the app many times to transfer money or organise my finances. I have had a few issues with my contact less card where it just didn't work, which is why it didn't get 5 stars.
Anonymous
Always receive great service from HSBC in store. Positive and friendly nature when setting up my student account with a perk of a no interest overdraft. Although other banks offer other incentives to bank with them, I find HSBC trustworthy and secure and their mobile app makes paying rent so much easier!
Anonymous
HSBC bank is very good. The customer service people are very friendly. Using the online services are also very easy to use. Statements can easily be sent each month.
Anonymous
The large overdraft has saved me on multiple occasions with my rent and living costs, and the Amazon voucher that they offer was a lifesaver. I would definitely recommend this bank as they have satisfactory customer service.
Anonymous
Customer service is impeccable, the app is a lot better than before though the only negative thing about it is that pending transactions don't show.
Anonymous
Very good student account that has a mobile app that is very easy to navigate and move money. The customer service while setting up the account was excellent and was easy to set up. Would highly recommend this account for first time students, the interest free overdraft and the sign up benefits are highly worth it.
Anonymous
I have attached my resume for your reference and hope to hear from you soon gorgeous and thanks for your time and effort in taking the time to look into the matter and I hope to hear from you soon and thanks for your time and consideration
Anonymous
Good customer service and interest free overdrafts. I was happy with the £60 amazon voucher I received when I created my student account. However, a downside is that it takes a few days for transactions to show up in my account.
Anonymous
Banking app is easy to use and is rarely down and unable to use. Sending money to others in quick and easy.
Anonymous
Have a great overdraft and let you extend it easily, can do everything including pay in cheques on the mobile app.
Anonymous
good customer service and helpful staff. They give you plenty of information regarding the account and terms and conditions. They also give you an overdraft using your credit score making it manageable to pay back.
Anonymous
I signed up for the HSBC bank account when i started uni and used it all through university. I even recieved a £60 amazon voucher to sign up. They gave me a free overdraft (we came in handy afew times) which was more than alot of my friends. They have a super easy to use app and website, which I love. The app shows me my account balance and last few transactions all on my phone at ay time.
Anonymous
I am very pleased with the HSBC bank services. I am able to use contactless and Apple Pay with instant money withdrawals and deposits. My wages can be paid straight into my account and I am able to transfer and receive money via the online banking app.
Anonymous
Excellent mobile app where you can clearly see lots of services available and navigate around. Easy to access secure messages and check your balance quickly. Also love the £750 overdraft!! It's come in useful quite a few times. Thanks HSBC!
Anonymous
I do not have any faults with the student account at HSBC at all, customer service and assistance is better than any other bank that I know of.
Anonymous
Amazing perks such as £1000 overdraft limit, £80 Amazon card and free student prime for a year! Would definitely recommend
Anonymous
Very good customer service, always helpful when I call. App is easy to use and transferring monkey between accounts couldn't be simpler.
Anonymous
This is a very good bank account, with one main criticism; the mobile baking app. I believe that the security is too low on the app. For example, when exiting the Barclays mobile banking app, the app automatically logs out, whereas this is not the case for HSBC. I have particularly enjoyed the one year free Amazon Prime membership, and although I do not have an overdraft, what HSBC offers sounds very desirable.
Anonymous
Everything is perfect apart from the mobile banking app. This is because I believe the security is far too low. For example, the Barclays Mobile App automatically logs out when you exit it, whereas the HSBC one does not. I have greatly enjoyed using the one year free Amazon Prime membership, and although I do not have an overdraft, what HSBC offer sounds very desirable.
Anonymous
a great bank, I've had no issues and had a great incentive of an Amazon voucher when I signed up for my student account
Anonymous
Decent overdraft and good deal with the free amazon prime and voucher for amazon easily obtained best student bank account I've heard of
Anonymous
I like how there is a £1000 overdraft and it came with other benefits when it was first opened such as an amazon voucher
Anonymous
The overdraft is really good it goes up every year , with 0% interest and upon graduating it turns into a graduate account
Anonymous
Was really easy to set up and they made the process and everything I was signing really clear so I understood it. I curet have an £1000 overdraft which is really good for being a student and definitely something to consider when you get a bank account. I also received a year of amazon prime membership and a £80 voucher which was a nice added bonus definitely.
Anonymous
Mobile banking app used to be a hassle but has since been updated - now very good. Fast, easy and touch ID also very helpful. Being able to transfer from home is hugely helpful. Overdraft quite small compared to what I've heard about others banks - only £300.
Anonymous
Bank is alright however I still don't have contactless card. Making a transfer is incredibly complicated for no reason.
Anonymous
Great overdraft limit and perks for new accounts, including student prime and a £60 amazon voucher. Mobile banking app is one of the best I've used.
Anonymous
I set up my account a while ago now but I haven't had any problems with it- online banking is easy to use and helps my build up my savings. The perks (1 year free amazon prime+£60 gift card) is also great for buying things in preparation for university and the endless choice of prime perks will never leave you bored! The only drawback is that they don't supply cheque books which I feel would've been useful in some situations.
Anonymous
I've never used the overdraft myself, but it was useful to know it was there if needed. I didn't use the app for around 2 years after downloading it, as it was not very good. I was also not notified when the app was improved, but when I did eventually try it again, was quite impressed with the newer version.
Anonymous
The overdraft was good as it allowed me a cushion if my loans didn't cover term costs, however the overdraft was only £750 compared to other students who had £1500, this I felt was good as I didn't stretch into an overdraft that would take longer to pay off and made me manage my money more sensibly.
Anonymous
Amazing customer service, super quality benefits and perks. Would recommend to any university student (current or potential) who need a reliable and safe student bank account.
Anonymous
I've had loads of hassel with it when something goes wrong, but their live chat team is always helpful eventually.
Anonymous
Overall this bank account does the job however the mobile app is pretty hard to use which isn't handy. The perk of free amazon prime is really nice as a student if you need supplies quickly.
Anonymous
One of the best bank accounts I've ever had. The £60 amazon card for signing up helped a lot with books and the 0% on overdrafts has saved me from a lot of trouble!
Anonymous
It works perfectly, doesn't charge anything, they respond fast to any queries and will usually solve any problem within the day. Excellent!
Anonymous
Customer service is almost always of the highest quality. In branch staff are very helpful. The Amazon voucher and free Amazon Prime is proving to be very useful. They offer a great amount of overdraft. You're never far from a branch which makes banking very easy. HSBC's online banking app is incredibly useful too - particularly being able to pay in cheques through it. I would recommend HSBC student banking to anyone.

Initially, I was pleased with my HSBC Student bank account. I received an £1000 interest-free overdraft for my first year of uni, plus an £80 (I think the amount has increased now) giftcard for Amazon, which enabled me to buy a huge chunk of reading material at no cost to myself. I was satisfied for the first three years, however I was unaware that I could have increased my overdraft limit should I have wanted to, to £2000 in my second year, and then £3000 in my third year of uni. After my third year of uni, I then went on to do a masters, so I made an appointment with HSBC not only to keep my student bank account but also to increase my overdraft limit. After a 45-minute wait after the scheduled appointment time which resulted in me having to cancel a meeting with my friend, I had the meeting with the member of staff . I was allowed to keep my student account, however, after going off behind a door for half an hour to speak to someone, she advised me that they would not allow me to increase my overdraft even though I had been with them for four years, longer than a student in their third year who would have been able to have a £3000 overdraft limit. I left the appointment extremely annoyed and disappointed with their service, and had a good mind to change to another bank.
Anonymous
I opened a student bank account in August with HSBC and I would definitely recommend others to open one too. I have a £1000 overdraft and also got a student credit card with a £500 limit. Their mobile banking app is great, you can simply transfer money to others (no card reader required). You can also lodge cheques via the mobile banking app too.
Anonymous
The account was very easy to open, which was the main thing. The only few issues I had were when my card stopped working, after keeping it next to my oyster card: they were very helpful and sent me a new one quickly. I rarely go to the branch and mostly do online banking, which is very clear and user-friendly.
Anonymous
The hsbc app is a decent banking experience, you can do most things you would need to do on the go. As a student the overdraft feature is a life saver at times. My one issue with hsbc is customer service, on one occasion I called to dispute a fee I had been charged and was repeatedly told I was wrong and felt that I wasn't listened to, I called again the next day and spoke to someone else and the issue was resolved.
Anonymous
Good to have a £1000 minimum overdraft, good secure and easy to use app. Good sign up offer of amazon voucher and prime membership.
Anonymous
When I was first thinking about having a student bank account I was unsure about what bank to go for. They all offer different perks. I arranged a meeting at my HSBC branch and they talked me through everything. They were really clear about how everything worked but they weren't patronising about it. With HSBC you can get a student credit card and also a debit card. I opted to just get he debit card at the start. I then got to choose my overdraft limit. The whole set up only took about 20 minutes and was really easy. Just take all your passwords and details with you. The perks for me were a 50 pound amazon voucher and also free prime for a year. Prime is super useful to have at uni when you want something cheap and quickly. I am know going to get the student credit card so I can start building up a credit score.
Anonymous
I got great perks when using this bank and their student overdraft has been a life saver on more than one occasion. The people are really friendly and it was really simple to set up.
Anonymous
Very difficult to access account/transfer money without jumping through a lot of loop holes updates to the app interface have improved ease of access.
Anonymous
Customer service is always very quick and helpful especially their anti-fraud department. Mobile app is ok but can be a bit slow and looks a bit a bit dated. When I created the account the offer that was on was a fifty pound amazon voucher
Anonymous
Great security, very quick responses to any issues, easy to get in contact with. Would recommend to other students.
Anonymous
The card gives you the flexibility needed with the use of contact less and chip and pin as well as the option to use an overdraft if needed. They also send handy tips over email to help you manage your student account and keep on top of your finances.
Anonymous
Great customer service, good mobile app and generous overdraft. When I applied to create the account the offer that was on was a fifty pound amazon voucher. I also have a saving account with them as liked their interest rate so even though the voucher was appealing, I mostly created the savings account with them because I already held an account with them.
Anonymous
Amazing customer service at the Chelmsford branch, they made it so easy for me to set up an account with them only waited for 20 minutes until an available appointment unlike barclays who were messing me about for 2-3 weeks and making it difficult making me wait days before multiple appointments. I've had not a single problem with HSBC or my account with them and I'm so glad I decided to open an account with them instead. The banking app is straight forward to use and so convenient. For the first year with the account I was offered a £1000 overdraft, second year £2000 and third year £3000 which is all interest free whilst studying. Overall perfect bank for student accounts!
Anonymous
good quality of customer service, friendly staff. Mobile banking app was very useful however needs strong WiFi connection for it to work properly. Did not hear of any perks
Anonymous
Good There are not very many perks of having the student bank account but it works well and does what it needs to do
Anonymous
Overall my experience with the HSBC student account has been excellent. I was given the full £1000 overdraft in first year, interest free etc, and it has been so useful for bridging the gap between SLC payments. I find their online banking app easy to use, and transferring money takes seconds. One issue is i find logging onto the deskptop website somewhat time consuming, as it requires a code from the app, however this extra step of online authentication does make me feel a lot more confident that my account is secure. I originally signed up for the perks, which included a £60 amazon voucher, which came in so much use in my first year.
Anonymous
Customer service always fantastic and account security really thorough with the code pad. Good overdraft.
Anonymous
Excellent customer service over the phone and in branch. Very efficient internet banking- when card lost i just cancelled it online straight away, no phone call, and got sent a new one within 3 days. Got a lot of advice and help when setting up a savings account.
Anonymous
A good service and really good perks like an £80 Amazon voucher and membership however if you set an overdraft it is near to impossible to extend it after it's been set.
Anonymous
Really great bank account, never had any issues. Let me extend my overdraft when I needed to. Shame about the money laundering but you can't have everything I suppose.
Anonymous
Great app and great security. However they didn't hold their promise of free amazon prime and £80 voucher as I wasn't a first year. Didn't say this on any of the literature.
Anonymous
Ability to increase/reduce overdraft simply using online banking Easy to use app Recieved £60 Amazon vouched for joining
Anonymous
The customer service has always been wonderful and I've always been able to get in touch where necessary. They're happy to change my overdraft whenever I need it changed, as long as I meet the criteria, and I usually get a response very quickly. I can now put cheques in through the app, and I was also able to get a credit card through them. The free year of amazon prime was a massive bonus because it gave discounts and meant that, if I forgot to get a textbook until the last minute, I could still get it in time!
Anonymous
Mobile banking is easy to use and access and online banking is very secure. They offer a £1000 overdraft and perks when first joining and also offer a credit card if eligible. The only weakness I've found is their customer service is unreliable, I had to go into the store 3 times to set up my account as their systems went down and when I have had issues their call centre struggled to provide me with a proper answer.
Anonymous
Excellent customer service, everybody was very helpful (even though I did have to wait a while to get an appointment.) The perks were great, I got an £80 Amazon voucher fo joining, and a £1000 interest free overdraft.
Anonymous
Whenever i had an issue HSBC was on call to help. The overdraft was really helpful when it came to unexpected bills and i recommend them to my friends and family.
Anonymous
The overall account was good but when dealing with issues it difficult, i had a bad experience in branch but actual facilities are good. Some banks can print you a new card in branch but HSBC doesnt offer this service
Anonymous
The HSBC student bank account is very good and the account creation came with relavant and useful deals (amazon prime and £80 gift card) HSBC provide decent overdraft options and they are nice and easy to bank with. The mobile banking app was very useful and easy to navigate.
Anonymous
This wasn't my bank but my best friend (who wasn't very sensible with money!!!) - HSBC were a great bank for student, offering perks, great overdraft benefits and low interest. However, they were slightly misleading when it came to pay back times and interest rates which left us in the dark sometimes. They also kept sending letters to get credit cards and upping overdrafts, which left her in (even more!) debt after leaving uni. This linked with the misleading information about payback times made it a difficult time. I'm only picking out the bad bits though, generally they were the best student account for us agreed amongst friends! Also not being able to access online banking without a key was annoying as it was often lost Ina shared house!
Anonymous
Clear communication, useful mobile app and it's easy to get in touch if you have an issue. The mobile app is great for keeping track of your finances which is an essential if your a student. Definitely recommend it for students.
Anonymous
Perfect!! Get amazing freebies and a great overdraft. The customer service team have been friendly and helpful every time I have required assistance! And the mobile app is soooo easy to use! All my friends who have the same account love it too.
Anonymous
Received 1 year free amazon prime which was key for me as I use it so much. Overall HSBC's cards are quite secure
Anonymous
Good amount on the overdraft, easy online banking. £60 amazon voucher when joined. easy to add new payee on the mobile app. internet banking is easy to access and excellent security.
Anonymous
Customer service is great, whenever I have a query/ issue they sort it out ASAP. My overdraft is helpful & doesn't incur other charges if i go over. The mobile banking app has recently been updated & now allows for transferring money which is extremely handy! And when I signed up for the student account I received (if i'm correct) 6 months free amazon prime! I'm yet to regret going with HSBC.
Frankie Turner
The student bank account alone is great. However, the mobile app has some massive improvements that could be made and is the reason once I no longer need my student account, i will be changing banks. Features such as the live chat in the app have helped me a lot, however one feature that hinders me a lot and has made me decide to change is the fact that you are unable to view your pending transactions. There is an option to do so but it always says there are none pending. As a student especially, this is something that would be extremely useful and a feature that we actually need. Yes amounts may go from our available balance, but this isn't always the case. Then you lose track of what you have pending and the only way to find out is to ask the live chat which is just a massive inconvenience. This is a feature that other bank apps seem to have. So for this reason, I can only rate a three out of five stars.
Anonymous
Really easy to set up, I had an account with HSBC before and was super easy to go online and transfer it to a student account. Overdraft simple and useful, and so are the set up bonuses!
Anonymous
The overdraft is really good as it lets me pay for things before my student loan has come in such as my rent and food. The perks have also been very good as i got the free amazon giftcard which enabled me to buy textbooks for uni and stationery. However, what lets the account down is the poor website and app. It is not as slick and easily used as other banks such as Natwest.
Anonymous
Excellent way to spend money and you can freeze your card if you lose it. It not complicated to use. Like the way you can create your own card
Anonymous
The bank account suits my needs perfectly, providing student benefits as well which have allowed me to travel and eat out at a cheaper price. While claiming my benefits with the student account it was straight forward to get them. The overall customer service is good, especially in branch which I have used, although I have encountered some mishaps with booking appointments in the past due to a fault in the system according to a member of staff in the branch, however they were perfectly polite and handled the situation well. Bank transfers are quick and easy, although the user interface of the HSBC mobile banking app could be improved to be easier to navigate, such as with showing your account's balance being combined with your overdraft being confusing at times. However, overall a decent bank for most students and businesses looking for a simple bank account.
Anonymous
Solid overdraft facilities and fast customer service, and the graduate account is very reasonable once university finishes.
Anonymous
Opening up a HSBC student account was one of the easiest and simplest thing. Going into a branch, the employees were helpful and I was in and out all set up within 30 minutes. The overdraft facility is also very easy and explained in full detail as well.
Anonymous
Very easy and helpful to use! If I have had any problems I can go into any branch and they all all extremely friendly and can help me out straight away.

Great rewards for signing up (amazon voucher and 1 year amazon student) and good scope for overdraft. Gives you everything you need.
Alice Turley-Pound
Great app, it's very easy to use and very useful. I fount it really easy to set up the account when I went into the bank they have great customer service. I have plenty of overdraft and the perks that came with the account were really useful.
Anonymous
The perks of getting one, I.e. the amazon gift card is really great. The overdraft is A good size and the mobile app is easy to use. Also you can get a credit card to use in case of emergencies so it is a good place to go to for a student account.
Anonymous
Mobile banking app is efficient, customer service is pleasant, however my account has been compromised at least twice before which is worrying.
Anonymous
It's really good you get some great bonuses like free amazon prime for a year and a bonus £80 amazon voucher and £1000 overdraft which is great
Anonymous
As a foreign student, the bank account was really easy to make, the staff were friendly and helpful. The only quibble I have would be the fact that my banking card didn't work originally and it took a long time to fix it. It was also hard to get a new password when I forgot my old one. However, the online banking apps are very easy to use and overall, I was satisfied with my experience. I have only added one star for the overdraft as I did not have to use it therefore cannot comment on the experience
Anonymous
There is a very good app for managing your money and they have a feature called fast balance where you can click and very quickly see your up to date current balance without having to log in to your account. This is makes checking your balance very easy which is good when you are a student! I also like the online banking service as it is all very easy to use. I don't think there are many perks for students with hsbc though as once you have joined you there are no more incentives to stay with hsbc, doesn't seem like they care much about keeping you just getting you to join them at the start. That said I am happy with hsbc and they do have good customer service.
Anonymous
Customer service is very good - I know I am able to speak to someone whenever I need to over the phone, quick and easily. Was offered a large overdraft but decided not to take it, however, the bank account came with a minimum £500 overdraft, which I have found really helpful even though I did not originally think I would need one. The mobile banking app is easy to use and quick. One downfall is that every time you want to transfer to someone who is not a payee, you have to use a secure card which makes it a longer process. I really enjoyed the perks on offer when I joined (6 months free Amazon Prime and £60 Amazon gift card). This drew my attention from the other offers as it was the best one.
Finn Prince
Great bank account all around, the free £80 Amazon gift card and year of amazon prime came in very handy along with the £1000 overdraft

The HSBC student bank account has really helped me look after my money whilst being at university. The mobile app allows me to check my balance and move money on the go, which is much more convenient than having to load up online banking on my laptop or go in to the bank. I have never had to use my overdraft but it is good to know that it is there should I need it, with 0% interest, which is great. I also received a years Amazon Prime membership for free when i signed up, which was really useful in my first year to get all of my university supplies, and watch films when I had free time to kill. I would really recommend HSBC student bank account to any new student looking to open a student account

The Bank provides you with a £80 amazon voucher when you open your student bank account with them, this comes really handy in buying books and other equipment for university. the online mobile app is also very useful and secured. the bank also offer flexible overdraft choices for students.

Overdraft limit is plenty. Perks offered included: HSBC mug, notepad and one year free amazon prime which was appreciated. Mobile phone app is really useful - easy to transfer money between accounts and to other people. However it can be frustrating when transferring to a new person as a computer must be used. Safety is good - digital secure key passwords and Touch ID.

Perks when account was created: amazon prime for 1 year and £80 Amazon vouchers Also able to get an overdraft

The main reason i signed up for a HSBC card was due to the incentives available at the beginning. They arent the best now but the app and the overdraft are good so all in all, i can't complain. Havent had any issues so I would recommend it to students.

The HSBC student account is definitely one of the top contenders when it comes to student accounts. It is incredibly easy to set up, and the online banking is far from difficult to use, in-fact I would say is the easiest online banking app I have used. But perhaps the best thing about HSBC is their offer of a £60 Amazon gift card when you sign up. Not only was this an added bonus, but turned out to be an essential for when starting at uni!

My experience with HSBC staff has always been positive. Each time I have went with a query, they have ended up explaining themselves very well and I often will learn something new, such as a feature on their mobile banking app. When I decided to sign up with HSBC for a student account, I was given the option of an overdraft ranging from £750 to £3,000 although I was told this is just used on rare occasions. But having such a large sum to fall back on if needed with comforting. The only poor experience I've had was in one branch where there was a very long waiting period and even though I had booked a meeting, I was kept waiting.

Easy and accessible app, great overdraft choices. Little offered when creating the account, should of gone with Santander for better perks.

I really love HSBC. I'm happy to bank with them. Their customer service is amazing! It was really easy to make an account and everyone was very nice. Also, when I had issues with my card, the customer service agent on the phone was very helpful.

Excellent overdraft offered. Mobile banking app is reliable. Excellent free gifts for joining, got an £80 Amazon voucher and Prime which I was very happy about.

Gave me £80 Amazon credit when I created my account and you can get another £20 if you also take out a credit card. They also allow me to have an overdraft of £3000 over the course of 3 years ( you get £1000 added each year). Can't find any complaints. Also online banking is incredibly simple and easy.

Online banking is very easy to use and have had no issues, staff were very friendly when I went into a store to help set up the account. The perks of the account have been very useful and we're very very easy to activate

While the Amazon prime and gift card were a good perk to the account, the mobile app needs some work and the online banking isn't as easy to use as other banks'. However, the account does the job and I have had no real issues with it.

Really good bank account! Received really great customer service and the overdraft facilities are really flexible. The app is great, really like the fast balance feature to make sure I'm not going to go into my overdraft. Would recommend. However, the perks aren't as good at some other banks which provide a 3 year railcard.

Very good at facilitating your needs, and with a keenness to help you spend wisely; their team will show genuine concern for when your finances are not in order and act almost act parent-like keeping you in check. The staff on the whole are always very friendly and helpful, and the online banking app is very easy to use. Finally, to note, the overdraft facility for a student account is almost too good not to use and the bank is extremely lenient and flexible with how they let you use it. Overall, a very good bank and I would strongly recommend.

The customer service is great and the overdraft does not have any interest rate on it so it makes it very easier for me to make a decision to take overdraft if I want. Secondly I was also given a eighty pounds Amazon voucher which was awesome.

Customer service is great, and have been extremely helpful over the phone in resolving any issues I have had. The overdraft facility going up to £1000 is very helpful as a student for those months you're struggling to stay above overdraft for. I was initially enticed to the offer due to the amazon gift voucher that came along with it which was very beneficial for buying materials related to my course.

Love the app, it is so easy to use and I was given a £1000 free overdraft, a year of Amazon Prime and an £80 Amazon gift voucher.

good account for students with the option of not having overdraft, in addition to good online services and quick and clear help through online help

Opening the account was very easy and the staff really explained every information into detail.im very happy with my account and the services provided by HSBC

Good overdraft plan to ensure I am financially secure throughout my time at university. It ensures I can meet the financial demands of studying in the pricey city of London. This includes food, bills, transport and other university essentials.

Amazing bank Helwful staff about having a graduate account I've had this account for over 20 years

I have experience of a student account and a full advance adult and premier account. In all cases it's the customer service and the automation available online and within apps that make life easy. The multitude of facilities offered are also brilliant to transition through the lifecycle of usage.

Good customer service, very easy to sort problems. When I had serious problems they were all sorted straight away. Mobile app is very good

The online banking app is really easy to use and moving money to other accounts is really easy. Setting up the bank account before moving to university was very straight forward and the customer service on the phone was helpful.

Found the £80 amazon voucher really helpful with getting uni essentials like books and stationary. I found amazon prime as well to be really helpful and i like watching it when doing class work and having tv shows in the background.

Very good service, quick to send through details with a very clear explanation - would highly recommend to any student looking to establish a student account.

Very good bank. Always there to help whenever I need it over the phone or in person. Always can help out if I'm struggling slightly with different payments. The mobile app is perfect. Everything I want. As a student transferring money to a friend happened so often, and it's so easy. Just tap in their details and the money is on its way. And you can save contacts, so ta easy to do. But also safe, with double pin codes needed. Helpful, easy to use. Good overdraft size. Not many perks though (or any they advertise)

Fast services and good atmosphere in banks. Although my card did have quite a few problems before it got to me, resulting in a delay of almost 2 months.

The HSBC student account is great for students as it offers an interest free overdraft which is helpful for students when they need emergency money and won't need to worry about extra charges. Also the perks are great and very handy for uni especially the Amazon gift card to buy books ready for uni.

Great perks and good overdraft facilities. Quick application and helpful customer service. Mobile app is a little slow at times but does just updated often

This is a great student banking account, they allow the student to have a overdraft limit of £1500 max with no interest payments if overdrawn which is usually the case with being a student.

Perfect for me. I love the app, I'm able to use it anywhere. I'm very happy with the fact that I can access my statements on my phone without having to wait for my paper one. I'm aleays informed on changes within the company and they always highlight how that could affect my banking.
winsome yuen
Th account has an overdraft of £1000 which has been useful when rent needs to be paid early. The banking app has an improved interface although I don't use it often as I link it to my Revolut card instead. There's a few perks on offer, but nothing of interest to me. Overall the service is decent, there's nothing that particularly makes it stand out from other banks.

Gives me a good overdraft which is needed as I'm a student. Online banking app is great now (compared to the old app) as it allows you to everything I need to from online banking! I haven't never delt with the customer service as I've never had a problem resulting in communication.

The overdraft is generous at £1000 and essential as a student who doesn't have the privilege of coming from a background that allows an allowance. Most services are easy to navigate etc. The only semi downside was sometimes when talking to customer services, some of the staff had especially strong accents which made the process slightly difficult; but obviously I appreciate that's not really the employees fault.

Good quality staff but the perks could have been better- free railcards etc however I chose to stay due to having an account already with hsbc so it was easier

Always try to stick with HSBC for banking, my account has a high interest rate and good benefits, and if I ever have a problem they're very easy to contact and usually sort it quickly.

Bak services very good, especially in branch. Employees very helpful when I had an issue with identity fraud and was fully refunded. Online/mobile banking services could be improved by making digital secure keys universal. Also improve app especially for android.

When I opened my student account, I went into my local HSBC branch to do so and the customer service I received was very efficient and friendly. The offer for starting an account with them contained Amazon student prime membership for a year and an £80 Amazon gift card (if I remember correctly). I currently have a £500 overdraft, but was eligible for £1000 (I just didn't want to be tempted to dip into it too much). I find the mobile banking app very useful, although it recently added a feature for paying in cheques using it, which doesn't work for me. I went into a branch to enquire about this, and just had to use the machine, but this isn't a big deal for me.

Mobile banking app has improved but needs further improving. Overdraft limit is advertised as being higher than what is given otherwise good

The banking app is so easy to use with a 'Fast Balance' display which can be viewed without even logging on. This is really useful when needing to quickly check my balance before buying something in a shop. I also like how you can alter the arranged overdraft balance at any time to help manage your spending.

Perks are good with free amazon prime and amazon credit. No downside really at all. The overdraft being £1000 is very competitive and it is interest free as expected. Customer service has been great whenever I have spoken on the phone. Overall can highly recommend!
