A key part of wellbeing is carving out space to lose yourself in the ‘now’.
That feeling when you’re in the zone, so absorbed and engaged with whatever you’re doing that you don’t even notice time passing; it’s called ‘flow’.
“Flow is being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one - like playing jazz.” - Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
So how can you find your flow, and why does it matter? Well, we all know that taking time out of your day to just ‘be’ is important. Maybe you achieve this with meditation, yoga or wellbeing apps. But what if you find switching off your mind too difficult?
Painting, gardening and baking are all great ‘flow’ activities, as they take your mind away from your day-to-day stresses and onto something creative. But you can do anything you like, as long as it’s something you’re passionate about.
