Ranking the worst ever YouTuber apologies

It’s become a bit of a meme tbh, so let’s rank the worst YouTuber apologies based on how little they actually apologised.

Apology videos seem to be a staple of internet culture nowadays. Some public figure does something wrong, they then attempt to take accountability. The word “attempt” is doing a lot of heavy lifting. But whose apologies were the worst?

Sienna Mae

If we were ranking them on originality, this might be a contender. Certainly no one else would have thought about apologising via interpretative dance, especially in response to allegations of sexual assault.

1/10

Logan Paul

Looking back on this one, it doesn’t seem as awful as it once did. It’s short and to the point. Yes, he was probably forced to get teary eyed by his then PR team. But the words are actual apologies and promises to be better. Whether they were upheld is a different kettle of fish.

7/10

David Dobrik

It’s mostly just under ten minutes of not saying very much. Props for referring to those involved as ‘survivors’ not ‘victims’. Some accountability is taken and he voices support for the survivors.

6/10

Laura Lee

The apology video so good she made it twice. I’m torn. Either it’s a melodramatic masterpiece on the same level as soap operas, or it’s an overacted PR stunt. As a gesture of good faith I’ll give the performance the score it deserves.

3/10

Jeffree Star

Makeup beat for the gods, gold velvet sofas and freshly straightened hair. Nothing says relatable and authentic like Jeffree’s apology. Saying that, just mentioning the things you did and chalking it up to ‘emotions’ isn’t an apology.

2/10

Shane Dawson

Another apology vid that looks reasonable in comparison to some of the more recent ones. There are actual apologies mixed in with pleading ignorance. It’s a bit Marvel movie in length though.

5/10

The Fine Bros

After wanting to trademark an entire genre (one that now makes up a large percentage of the platform), the brothers issued their apology. They did spend a lot of time apologising, just not about what they did, just that they communicated it wrong. Ok.

4/10

Colleen Ballinger

Who had MirandaSings gets called out and then makes an apology song on their 2023 bingo card? She starts the song by saying she wants to take accountability and then refuses to do so. And now she’s allegedly copyright claiming anyone who does commentary on it.
