House of the Dragon still featuring Viseryon Targaryen played by Matt Smith

This new entry to the Game of Thrones series promises a new weekly flatmate gathering, but what will it be about?

The wait is nearly over, and if you’re as excited about House of the Dragon as we are, you’ll be overflowing with questions.

Will we see Starks? Will we see Lannisters? Will Dan and Dave be involved? Thankfully not on that last one. For answers to the rest of your burning questions about House of the Dragon, read on…

A ‘pregame’ of thrones

We all surely remember that in the final episodes of Game of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen incinerated the city of King’s Landing. But what was it like when it was all still standing, and the Targaryen dynasty ruled the iron throne with an equally iron fist?

That’s what House of the Dragon will answer. as it tells us the history of Daenerys’ family, throughout the Targaryen civil war known as “The Dance of the Dragons.”

Will I recognise anyone from GoT?

Nope! This is a completely new cast and set of characters, some of whom have been mentioned in the past but never brought to life.

Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon shows a very different Westeroes, filled with different families all trying to keep and attain power. HOD will introduce us to House Velayron and House Hightower

The show features The Crown's Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen - younger brother of King Viserys and heir to the throne.

Olivia Cooke plays Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King.

We will also see Emma D'Arcy in the line-up, who plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen - the king's first-born child, who is of pure Valyrian blood and a dragon rider.

Steve Toussaint is Lord Corlys Velaryon, also known as the Sea Snake - a nautical adventurer who has built his home into a powerful and wealthy seat.

It also stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen and Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower.

What’s going to happen?

The show is based on the book Fire & Blood, but whether or not it’ll follow that plot directly is up in the air. Whatever happens, rest assured that it’ll be bloody, dramatic, and very fiery.

With the possibility of a female leader, along with the backstabbing, and the in-fighting, this latest instalment from Westeros is perhaps not far from the current situation in Westminster…

Where can I watch it?

UK fans can watch the series on Sky Atlantic - the same channel that aired Game of Thrones. It will also be available on the streaming service Now TV.

Each episode will be aired every Monday… talk about old school!

Excited now? Nice. Time to stock up on that Aldi popcorn! (Our favourite is sweet & salty).
