12 things to do after you’ve finished your exams

Your exams are over and you can sleep in without feeling guilty about it all day. But in case you’re wondering what to do with all of your free time, here’s some suggestions.

Relax

Duh. You’ve spent months holed up in your dorm, and hours hunched over a desk; you deserve to relax a little now!

Do the opposite

Now that the obvious one is out of the way, maybe you should get out and wake yourself up a little. After spending so long inside, a little bit of summer fresh air will do you good! Have a jog around your local park, or even just a stroll along the beach.

Celebrate

Whether that’s at your laptop with Netflix, or at a friend’s house with a bottle of vodka, be happy in the knowledge that- for a while at least- you don’t have to think about exams anymore!

See your friends

You may feel like they’ll have forgotten what you look like, but your friends will probably be desperate for a catch up as soon as you’re all free. Message your group chat and arrange for a reunion that would make even Taylor Swift’s squad jealous.

See your family

Yeah you might be living with them again, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make an extra effort with your fam now that you can. Even if it’s just grabbing an ice cream with your mum, or offering to babysit your siblings, show your family that you’re glad to see them.

Go on holiday

If you have any of your student loan left, and if your friends are up for it too, have a look at cheap holiday destinations for the summer. I’m not suggesting Malia or Ibiza (though don’t rule them out!) but perhaps you could go on a road trip to a local tourist destination. Blackpool pier, anyone?

Catch up

Whether you’ve missed out on your family’s gossip (you know, your aunt’s newest boyfriend or your sister’s most recent friendship drama), or the latest instalment of your favourite show, you now have plenty of time to get up to speed!

Go to the cinema

In case you haven’t heard, the summer of 2018 is definitely one for movies! Those coming out include Skyscraper, Ant-Man and the Wasp, as well as Incredibles 2, and Mamma Mia 2 (AKA the most anticipated sequels ever. Of course, I’m not bias or anything) So basically, whatever your taste in films is, I can guarantee that your local cinema will be showing something that you’re interested in.

Find next year’s timetable

If you’re carrying on with your degree next year, your new timetable should come out at some point during the summer. Keep an eye on your emails for your new schedule, and maybe your new reading lists too. It’s probably the least appealing thing for you to do right now, but trust me- you’ll be glad that you prepared when it comes to September.

Check next year’s living arrangements

On the subject of next year (yep, I’m talking about that again, sorry), now is a good time to make sure that your house/ dorms for next year are sorted. Perhaps you could even begin to budget your spending? (Yeah, okay, I know that that’s never gonna happen...)

Find a job

If you’re one of those students who craved ice cream when revising, only to be disappointed when you simply couldn’t afford to shell out for Ben & Jerry’s, you could always keep an eye out for any summer vacancies and save up some extra cash for next year.

Nothing

You want to lie in bed and stare at your ceiling for an hour? Do it. You want to do absolutely nothing productive in a 12 hour period? Well, it’s your prerogative. Don’t feel like you have to go out and actually do stuff just because you can! Your time is finally your own again.

I hope this list gave you some ideas about what to do now that your exams are finally over, and that you enjoy this summer because you definitely deserve to!
